The collected works of donny

Is there a phone number or email address we can use to get in touch with this guy directly? I'd love a reputable ebay alternative, its always good to hear about another outlet for sgi parts!

I've got a spare Octane collecting dust in my setup, and it looks like its time to replace it. Help a fellow SGI addict purge his collection, and get yourself a very clean, basic Octane in the process. The machine is R10k 250/1 meg cache, 512/9gig, SE gfx. Old logo skins are very clean, the machine is in much better condition than the dime-a-dozen Octanes on ebay these days. Make me an offer, I'd love to move this machine quick...I sense an Octane2 or Onyx IR in my near future :D

This Octane is still up for grabs. To sweeten the deal a bit, the Octane is now an R12k 270 w/SSI gfx. Any offers? Don't let shipping scare you, I work for FedEx and can get you about 50% off of express shipping.

Ok....no interest on buying the Octane, so I'll try a new angle. I have a few systems that I'm never going to use again, and I'd like to move them so I can aquire a new toy. Currently I have 2 Octanes, 1 R10k 250, 512/9gig/SE gfx, and 1 R12k270 512/9gig/SSI gfx, and a Mac G4 that I want to send to someone who has use for them. I don't really need cash for these systems, but an interesting trade would be awesome. If anybody wants any of this stuff, let me know what you'd be willing to trade. :)

...Oh my GOD!... Nekochan, land of temptations for "Mr. Bill"! :o
How much costs the shipping to Argentine, by "your" FedEx way? :D

Diego- Just PM me with the address they will be shipped to (city and postal code) and I can get you a quote pretty quickly.

Old socks...now theres something I never even thought to ask for! :D My goal here in asking for trades is to try and get 1 or 2 new and different systems to replace the 3 (and maybe even 4) that I just plain don't use anymore. That being said...I'm really open to offers for interesting equipment. Just let me know what you want and what you want to give up for it.

Now we are talking! What kind of shipping do you usually use for xinjiang wives??

Cory- which systems were you interested in? Just the Mac, or an Octane as well?

I think both of the Octanes have been spoken for, the G4 is still up for grabs, though. I'll keep you guys posted!

Just an update on this....The R12k Octane is gone on to a loving home, but I still have an R10k Octane, the G4 and now an R10k o2 to get rid of. I know I had said that I didn't want cash for these necessarily, but if somebody wants to make me an offer on any of these systems, I'll be glad to entertain it :) Thx for all the hardware offers on these systems, after giving it more thought tho, I'm really looking for a faster Octane2 or deskside Origin to augment my systems, so cash might get me closer to my goal than a trade would. Unless somebody has an Octane2 or Origin that they don't want anymore....

The G4 is an original Blue & White G3, upgraded to G4/400, 512/1x40 gig, 1x10 gig. It has the stock PCI-66 ATI Rage 128Pro, and an additional ATI Radeon 7500. I've been using it with dual heads for FinalCut, but its good for three heads if that catches your fancy. As for price, I'm not to sure what to ask really, if you're interested PM me with an offer. I also have the lovely matching 17" Apple Studio Display CRT, if anyone wants it.

OK- the plot thickens :) I've now got in my hands a dual G4, 2x450. I can play with the config as far as RAM/HDs, does this catch anybody's eye? Anybody with an Octane2s' eye?

So if they said that, and built an $8500 Itanic box using really good components that came loaded to the gills with memory, disk space, graphics that actually *worked*, etc etc running what appeared to be the *same* environment that existing customers were used to, the whole plan might make some sense ?

Exactly! As an SGI customer, there is very little to motivate me to buy a Prism deskside. It's all off-the-shelf, industry standard stuff. I can buy any number of workstations will similar (or better) specs for much less money. The number $8500 keeps getting thrown around here in this thread. If anybody noticed, the pricing listed for this new deskside on SGI.com is "$8500 - $39000". So what does $8500 get me? A single Itanic 1.3ghz and a single FireGL T2? I don't know about anybody else, but that doesn't scream good price/performance ratio to me. How many dual G5s/HPs/Sun Java Workstations/IBM Intellistations/et al could I buy for $39000? Now I'm not meaning to be totally negative here. Hell, I'd buy a Prism for $4000 today. I see no reason to pay such a huge premium for a workstation that isn't any more "special" than the competition, though.

I'm sure this deskside has its niche, but as hamei says, this won't even retain all of SGIs existing customers, let alone build their customer base. Who am I to judge though.....best of luck SGI! :)
