SGI: hinv

Origin 300. 24xR14000 600MHz. 22GB. Onyx4 skins

I finally got time to put this machine together. I picked up the Origin 300 parts almost two years ago and had plans to put it inside my old Clariion rack but I never finished that.
Four months ago I got a half height Onyx4 rack that has just enough space for these parts. This last month I have put it together and placed it with the other big iron. The rack comes from kais58.

Unfortunately module 001c16 is not working and I think it is mainboard related, "no response". I have tried swapping boards with the other modules, but the problem stays with the 001c16 module.
The leds on the back, that I assume show cpu activity, are not active at all, and one (of two) numalink led on the router for this module is not lit.
I traded an extra module from ramq. An IO9 swap with this didn't help, and I was thinking to replace the whole module with this 2x500Mhz, but I prefer another 4x600Mhz so I must find a replacement mainboard.

A nice replacement would be an Origin 350 with graphics hack and get an "Onyx 300".

All of this is running from a single phase 220V 16A. The original connector is still there.

Next step is to hook it up to the IR2 module and get an Onyx 300, hinv-wise. The observant reader might have seen the audio board in the hinv. It's an Audigy2 ZS, same as the Fuel can use.

With all the cpus you have, I'd replace that brick and one more with a V-brick or X-modded-to-V-brick. Then you could have four V-12's ... just enough to drive a T221. Or two V-12's and one of those nice Eizo dual-input displays.

When the opportunity arises, please consider adding some or all of the additional info smj mentions in the Hinv Forum sticky "Guidelines for "hinv"-Thread". The additional detail/info can be invaluable when troubleshooting problems or tracking down the random listed-by-part-number-only eBay posts. Here's a snip from Steve's post:

If there's not already one in there, there should be a mount built into the top of the rack to hold an L2 controller . If you don't already have one, an L2 controller is a very nice addition to a multi-module system (and you could also add an L2 touch-screen display ). EDIT: Looks like 'already have an L2' is indeed the case - just took a closer look at your photo of the rear of the rack and it looks like there are some cables running up to the L2 area.

Thank you all. I like that color a lot and the half height rack makes it almost a deskside. Some graphics inside and it would be perfect.
I haven't seen to many V- or X-brick around, so maybe an modded O350 will be easier (and cheaper) way to go. Also, the ones I have seen is not 220V and I don't have a powerbrick (or whatever it is called).
I will probably settle with V10 graphics, because of V12 prices, if I get to this point.

I will measure the power consumption when I find my meter and add some details to the info as recondas recommends.

There is indeed an L2, and a controller display would be neat, but again not so easy to come by I think.

The Ktown2 is waiting in a box, ready to swap in :-)

It has been pointed out to me that it is in fact Origin 300, not Origin 3000, so I fixed that typo in the original post.
If you get around it, please tell us what the power consumption is like...

I have just replaced the faulty mainboard in module 001c16, and now all 24 cpus are working :-) I had my eye on one on eBay, and also got a tip about it from jan-jaap.
I first tried to just swap the VRMs and IO9 from another module, but it didn't help, so it was the mainboard after all.
Unfortunately there is also some problem with one of the DIMMs, which causes me to "loose" 2GB. So now I have to find a replacement 1GB DIMM. Has anyone a leftover?

I'm a bit confused to see that the fans seem to operate about 2x the Warning RPM.
Well, it is kind of noisy. Is there a "low-fan" parameter to set somewhere?
