Woot! 100k Seti units! - Page 1

Just hit 100k on my ongoing "Seti at Home" computation project. :) :) :)

For those that aren't following Team Nekochan on BOINC, currently we're ranked 415 of 35,661 teams. And I'm ranked 372 of 17,524 Canadian SETI hosts.

Everyone should run Seti on at least one machine, help get our team into the top 250 overall. Even my old trusty Indigo R4400 has run units with a total credit of 1832 since June 20th, 2005.

just fired up my octane.
Why?
sound interesting! :D

But unfortunately, it isn't the fastest, and needs to be offline at night.
But still I'm interested
:O2: Toika :O2: Myra :O2: Fiona :Octane: Lisa :Octane: Sandra :Indigo2: Danica :Indy: Giana :O200: Lara :O200: :O200: Iona :O2000: Aida
my octane is now working, or at leastI hope so, it does give this:
2006-02-08 09:26:58 [SETI@home] Message from server: Not sending work - last RPC too recent: 138 sec
What does that mean? my CPU load is high, so it must be working on something. Is this just buffering?
By the way: take a look at the top computer list, ranked at 7:
7 Michael Sangs 2,979.65 1,987,176.92 Silicon Graphics, Inc. IP35 IRIX64 6.5
But even second when you sort the list by total credit:
2 Michael Sangs 2,979.65 1,987,176.92 Silicon Graphics, Inc. IP35 IRIX64 6.5
Nice going for him

Yeah, I'm getting there too. Only 29k more to catch you :) Pitty there's only 5 active members on team Nekochan :(

Do we have a neko boinc or seti@home client? or should I just go grab it from the site and compile?

You can get everything you need here, precompiled:

Hey, looks like someone just brought another 8 x 250 MHz Origin 2000 on-line!
I suppose I am now the sixth active member. 3 systems, 2 active, I expect to have the Octane, the Inactive, and 2 more system up Monday for a total of 6.
I used to be active but the power bills were just getting crazy. California is probably the worst state in the US for power costs.

Don't go by the creation date, SETI keeps screwing this up and adding duplicate hosts. The O2k's been running since January.

Ontario's not that far behind. If I ever decided to give up computers and go into 'agriculture', I bet my electricity bills wouldn't move a lot either way - heh. My worst bill from last year was over $750, though I think that was 4 months worth. I wish they'd just do monthly billing, and keep the 'suprise' factor down.

It's not even so much that the electricity itself is expensive, but by the time you stick on the 'add-ons' it basically doubles the price (or more) from market value.

Gotta love those add-ons, I call them leeches myself. All in all, my bills not too bad, running five machines, two laser printers, and a fax machine 24/7, along with the usual refrigerator, tv, lights, etc, I average between $90 and $120 a month.

I only wish mine were that low. At the present, mine is $370 a month for a three bedroom 1200 sqft apartment in Dallas. In April or May depending upon construction progress, I'm moving to our new house so we will be cooling 4200 sqft. But the bright side of that is we will no longer be buying power from TXU. our new town is servered by a coop that has no profit built into it's rate structure. So the price per kwh is currently $.08 a kwh as opposed to the $.135 per kwh I'm paying from TXU.

Another bright side to moving is my new garage/server room/office. It's 10x20, on it's own air conditioning unit and no shortage of bandwidth or power as all the utilities pass through the garage. I've even had the contractor make provisions for a natural gas powered backup generator. We will be served by Verizon FIOS 5mb up/35mb down internet service, so I don't think internet speed will be a problem. It will make a $3500 a month mortgage seem almost worth it.

..i joined the team too some days ago

found a dusty organ-donor-pc to do the seti-funk...
Just saw yesterday that I was off the list on the team, I passed another member, and then I suddenly disappeared, and the member I passed was on place 20 AND 21, so I was away and he was on two places. But when the next result of me got my score higher, I suddenly reappeared :?

I'd fire both Onyx's up if it wouldn't make my electric meter spin 3 times faster than it going now

I used to have every machine I owned running stuff like Seti, but not only was the power bill too much, but one of my PCs kept blowing PSUs too! I'd love to find inteligent life (beyond this planet, you know what I mean!) but not as much as I like to save money!
