Ah, I'd just assumed the Swedish was telling me the file had disappeared long ago.
After some Google Translating, I have now logged in and downloaded it!
The world needs more MIPS Irix up to date software/code maintainers.
Everything seems to have ground to a halt around 2006-8.
Thanks

Still waiting on it arriving
It's in the country apparently. Can't wait for the VAT and import duty
In the meantime I got an Indigo2 MaxImpact 128Mb/18Gb/MaxImpact 2/2/4 for £152 on Ebay so keep your eyes open for bargains.

... and hello Ian, I'm actually in Scotland and might want to buy some RAM off you sometime.
Edinburgh isn't too far away for me to drive to. Is that Onyx RE2 still £8000 ? I'll need to save up and find a van!
Good to find this site.
I've been SGI-less since 2006/7 and just been getting back and discovering how wonderful these old things are.

Just got the perfunctory VAT bill. No customs charge thankfully.
20% VAT sucks. Why am I paying VAT on something that I bought from someone who payed VAT already from another country.
How many times can this country charge VAT on stuff. This is ridiculous!
Buy - pay VAT. Sell, Buy back, pay VAT. What is VAT ? Vampire Acruing TAX ? Value Added terrorism ?
Surely VAT should apply to first time buying, this is not the case here. HMRC I hate you!
Feedback when I get the MaxImpact and test working

Received!
Put in SGI
hinv - good 2GE/2RE/4Mb TRAM
boot
run demos (atlantis/buttonfly/tex_cube) - bad
every alternate pixel line isn't textured, it's red
The phong/flat shaed demos are OK. Textured ones have problems.
anyone know if this is TRAM problem ? config problem ?
My other MaxIMPACTs don't do this.
Put in another SGI - same result.
This one is from Canada, but I don't think it's a PAL/NTSC problem!
I'm going to swap boards with my good MaxIMPACTs to try to narrow it down when I get time (or reseat the TRAMs when I find out where they are)
Ian - you still got TRAM modules for sale ?

Tried swapping the TRAM module from a working MaxIMPACT board. Same result.
Going to try swapping individual boards when I get time.
Got a Teal Indigo2 GR3-Elan (?) off of Ebay.
Last person had all the dev kit on it. graphics libraries, SGI compilers.
Keeping the 2Gb drive.
Putting Irix 6.5 on a 36Gb drive for it.
Hopefully I can get the dev kit transferred.

@cybercow
if I have them all powered up at the same time, they would generate a lot of heat.
and I don't have enough keyboards and mice to accommodate them.
I have a KVM but still..
Generally, they are all off.
If I want to, I usually turn one on, do things... for a while.. , then turn it off.
so nae danger

OK, my version of DINA seems to be hard coded to look for updates from
www.mechanics.citg.tudelft.nl
which has been defunct since 2008.
I tried editing its config file and others and it's still pointing there.
any clues as to how to make it stop defaulting there ?

just type ./hexedit
if that doesn't work go into the directory and type ls -al
the file to run must have an x in the first column (execute)
type ./{the name of the file to run}

Don't get me started on power cables.
I'm in the U.K.
We've got a guy at our work doing tech support who collects euro power cables that come with new PC's.
Instead of throwing them away, he strips them down to copper and sells the copper to metal merchants.
Apparently if you give them the power cables you get less for them than for just the copper.

Besides which Mashek has had 4 MaxImpacts for sale for quite a while now.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SGI-Silicon-G ... 19fefe576a
I bought 2. There is still one left. Works out for me at about £200+ a bit each including shipping and import fees.
Not sure if I still have to pay VAT (fsck you UK government) but hey, that's well below UK asking prices.

At Masheks prices a hobbyist should have bought it, but they didn't.
Maybe there are less hobbyists seeing as this tech is 20 years old.
I don't really see any way to get anyone who wasn't part of the wonder of SGI into SGI anymore.
Dwindling market.
Every time I install Irix and have to google for cluesm then tcsh to get autocompletion I wonder why I am doing it.
Then I watch electropaint... and it all comes flooding back.
I don't need a 900Mhz CPU for my Fuel, or a V12, but then again, I couldn't afford or dream of them before.
Now I can. I'm making up for a lost past. I can have something now that cost more than my house.
I can play with something that I wasn't allowed to before or that I couldn't afford before.
I enjoy it frustrating me.
Thank you Silicon Graphics Corp and Irix

It must have worked at some point and used that library.
I'm doing find / -name libcurl.so.4
and trying to add it to my library path and...
Foxtrot Alpha
