Hi!

Im looking for my first ever SGI machine and thought I'd see if anyone here is interested in a trade for an Atari Falcon.

The Falcon has a CT2 accelerator which gives it a 50mhz 68030, FPU and TT-RAM (FastRAM).
It's fitted right now with a 40gb harddrive, 14mb ST-RAM (ChipRAM) and 128mb TT-RAM (FastRAM).
Everything is mounted in a stock Atari Falcon case. Factory new PSU last year (old stock).

Im located in Sweden.

I have some Sun's allready, so im good on that front. Thanks anyway.
I need some SGI awsomeness in my life now ;)

Thanks, but I'll start with trying to find someone to trade with. I need to free up some space at home anyway.

Thanks man! Can you see who it is in the avatar? ;)
I might have found somone to trade with here in Sweden, the deal is not 100% done yet though.

The Ataris are awesome music making machines. I still use an STE running Notator SL in my studio. I just love pattern sequencers.

Hi,

Im looking for a second CPU for my Ultra 45, an UltraSparcIIIi 1.6ghz to be exact.
Preferably with the fan and heatsink as well :)
Just wondered if the specified RAM limit (16gb) for the Ultra 45 is based on the largest available modules at the time, or if it is a real hardware limit?
I'm asking because I browsed through ebay and spotted a 32gb RAM kit (8x4gb modules) specified for the Ultra 45.

Any ideas? :)

EDIT: Link to the ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sun-Microsystem ... SwVFlUFWZc
Bump! I found some Sun Blade 2500 1.6ghz CPU's on ebay. Will they work in the Ultra 45, or does it use another socket?
Yes. Getting some kind of hardware acceleration in plain X (Xsun) is a pain.

Still got lagging window rendering and just outlines showing when dragging windows in JDS on Solaris 10. OpenGL stuff works great though.
Ultra 45 with XVR-2500 graphics here.
:Octane: Dual 300mhz R12k - 256mb RAM - 146GB 15k RPM HD - V6 Graphics
Solaris 10 1/13 and I know fogWraith is running it too on his system.
Must be something we'v missed in the configuration. X stuff seems to write to the framebuffer only, no acceleration what to ever and the same responsiveness as my old XVR-100 on the same system. OpenGL stuff runs like a dream though.

Im having the same problem. FireFox segfaults on my machine, same with Thunderbird. Running Solaris 10 on an Ultra 45.
I think I'v spent $150 in total on my Ultra 45 with a single 1.6ghz USIIIi, 16gb RAM and XVR-2500 graphics.
The ebay prices for the Ultra 25 and 45 are insane though.

I have tried a lot of different OSes on mine but settled with Solaris 10.
It seems like the best thing to run after all. Feels more "right" somehow than *BSD or Linux on a Sparc machine.
It needs to be 1.6ghz iirc. But I might have sourced one locally now.
Have been trying to bootstrap pkgsrc, but it fails after running for 15 or so minutes on my Ultra 45.

Trying to bootstrap with SUNWgcc on Solaris 10.

Any ideas? Have been searching around a bit, but I can't find anything that really helps me getting further.

Very strange indeed. Will try some more later tonight. Might it have something to do with all the OpenCSW-stuff in my PATH?

Not that I know of. I only ran ./bootstrap, nothing got built manually. Have too look into it when I get home from work.
Thought i'd try bootstrapping it using Solaris Studio tonight as well.

Hi!

I think I have played enough with my Ultra, so Im interested in seeing what I can get in a trade for some SGI stuff :)

Specs as follows:
Dual 1.6ghz UltraSparc IIIi
16gb RAM
300gb 10k RPM SAS drive
120gb 7.2k RPM original Sun SATA drive
XVR-2500 graphics

Onboard sound is a bit jerky. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Will try to source a working PCI sound card for it before trade.
Shipping would probably be killer to the US, but I'm willing to ship there for the right machine.

Interested in everything SGI, but a Fuel is on the top of the list.
:Octane: Dual 300mhz R12k - 256mb RAM - 146GB 15k RPM HD - V6 Graphics
I got it to work last night with gcc 4 from OpenCSW. It built right away without any issues what so ever.

Changed $PATH to /bin:/sbin:/opt/csw/bin and ran "./bootstrap" without any flags at all from /usr/pkgsrc/bootstrap.
Will investigate further tonight if the actual packages build like they should as well :)

Resurrecting this a bit. Would be nice to have a working NetSurf 3.5 with JS enabled on IRIX.
Never having tried to build anything on IRIX, I don't think im the right person to try to make it work.

All I can do is encurage someone to do it. So come on, someone try building it! ;)

NetSurf is speedy and works terribly well for what it is on my Atari Falcon 060 running FreeMiNT, would be wonderful to have it running on IRIX.

An updated version of Pidigin would be nice. Quite a few protocols don't work anymore (or obsolete) in the current Nekoware version.
