IRIX and Software

Irix Insallation on another SGI - Page 2

@josehill - Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this when I was trying to get mine installed as I'd read it could be a problem. I couldn't find any changes that made any difference. For completeness though, here are the settings as recommended for linux:

Code: Select all

sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.path_mtu_discovery=0
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.portrange.lowfirst=2048
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.portrange.lowlast=2048
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.portrange.first=32767
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.portrange.hifirst=32767

tried this one on my mac, after that the octane shows me an new error message:

Can't set up network connection to host 192.168.2.2: select: protocol failure in circuit setup.
Hi Nolis,

I'm around on Skype for a bit so maybe we can try going through it. I've PM'd you my username.

Cheers,
Ian
I'd just like to add to this. I've followed the wiki article to install IRIX from OS X. It's a very nice writeup. The only issues I had were:

After changing /etc/exports on OS 10.8.6 and rebooting, showmount -e still had no entry. I had to issue:

Code: Select all

sudo nfsd update

to get nfsd to read the exports file.

On the wiki page, there's also a typo here:
Start RSHD with:

Code: Select all

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDeamons/shell.plist

should be LaunchD ae mons

On 10.6.8, I found that creating the guest account with the command line was giving me problems. Using the Accounts preference pane was painless and seems to work just fine.
@zafunk: well, did you correct those errors?
Hint: it's a wiki, anyone can edit it. It is made for users, by users.

Looked into it. I don't have permission to edit the wiki, nor will I be applying for permission. If you have access to edit the wiki, I'd be much obliged if you'd make the changes.

There are links on the wiki that go back to how to edit wikipedia pages.
eg:
http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Editing_the_Nekochan_Wiki
http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Including_ ... n_the_wiki

Myself and nekonoko are admins of the wiki and we had something like 10 times more vandalism, spam and rubbish to clean up than actual contributions from members thus nekonoko set the wiki to update by members only.

Apply for membership (preferably with reference to your username on the forum), and myself or nekonoko generally notice it the request within a few hours and approve it.

I fixed the typo.
