Just read this whole series...so good.
Looking forward to the next post :)
A new post in the series, with an interesting video at the end - http://therealmccrea.com/2015/01/25/the ... ng-system/
We've gotten used to so much innovation, design, connectivity & interactivity over the last 20 years, it's hard to remember how cool a lot of these things appeared back in '95. The dancing bars in the resource monitor, the 3D video sequences, "wysiwyg" html, the notion of being able to connect with any brand/institution/person simply by typing in a web address... The video would have blown minds at many levels.

he'll never post again now to keep the neat number :P

It's a funny joke but I think we're all aware that in order for an unsigned integer to overflow it's got to be a pure power of two, and since hamei didn't break nekochan at post number 256 you have to figure our post numbers must be stored in at least two bytes, so hamei's got at least another 55537 posts to go before he really breaks nekochan... :P

What if the numbers are stored in BCD form?

Actually I think they're stored in bi-quinary coded decimal...

That was very funny
But in truth, saying "unsigned" is praenimis... it would be a power of two either way.
Numbers are frequently printed in fields of limited size, which can act strangely when they are not wide enough. They can even suddenly turn into something non-numeric, like with the "G" format specifier in Fortran.

Hey, when I officiated in a pinball tournament I had to watch for rollovers all the time.
smit happens.

Rollovers in pinball? Those guys must be good...

Yeah, there's some incredible players out there. The #1 pinball player in the world, Keith Elwin, lives about 50 miles away, but we get international competitors around here too.

Compared to that lot, I look like I'm all thumbs.

Any of those guys ever tilt? That's always been my chief difficulty at pinball, constant tilting... 8-)
