I s'pose you know, you have the world's most expensive electricity ? Even post-Enron California is only about a third that price. There must be a reason ?

In Cali, it's about $0,17 per kWh so bit more than a third. In France it's about €0,13 (but we're all gonna die of radiation poisoning sooner or later LOL).

Pfft, I pay about $0.56/kWh (in the Bay Area in Cali) all told...
It's pretty insane.

Yep, that's where I live as well.

Interesting. So Cal Extortion, I mean, Edison ends up charging me (since I bust through to at least Tier-4 usage every month) an aggregate rate of about $0.24/kWh. vegac, are you on Pacific Gouge and Extraction?
smit happens.

Sheesh, I have Duke Energy (in Kentucky USA). Last month (jan 15-feb 16) I paid $131.11 for 1557 kWh which works out to $0.084/kWh. If my apartment building wasn't so old, it would probably be half that. I bet more than half of my electric bill goes right out the windows and cracks in the walls as heat in the winter, and cool air in the summer. In the spring and fall when the weather is nice, I spend $20-30 on electric, but in the summer months it can get close to $200.

I don't know how many kWh we pay, but between me, my roommate and his boyfriend, we paid $400 this month to Virginia Dickhole Power Co. His house is ancient though, has so many air leaks its not even funny.

White man build big fire, sit far away. Indian build small fire, sit close.
Alright, y'all made me pull out some papers and check... I'm in Berkeley, California and service is from PG&E. I have 17 solar panels on the roof, so I "just" pay for whatever I pull off the grid (500-900 kWh/mo), but it may not be clear how it translates to any standard residential rates.

Anyway looking at April-February billing starting in 2014, I averaged $0.247/kWh with a range of 3.6 cents (22.8 cents to 26.4 cents). I usually use $0.25/kWh for estimating year-long operating costs for electric lights and such, so nice to see I wasn't so far off.

I need to get around to installing solar.

Last month, for 924 kWh, I paid $214. However, this is a 2400 sq ft house. When I lived in an apartment, I usually spent between $80 and $300/mo (higher in summer of course).

Last year I used about 2600 kWh/a at 0,23 EUR/kWh. For a small apartment, heating is done by natural gas. There's no AC, because in Germany there aren't so many days of extreme heat.
But I know, if I run some of the SGIs for a prolonged period, this figure will go up noticeable.

BTW, glad that the server is up and running again.

Thankfully I always plug my car in at work which helps the bill quite a bit. I am sure the majority of our bill is the furnace. When my lease is up (next october :/ ) I'm planning on moving to a newer apartment which will hopefully have more efficient appliances and insulation, and they will let me hook up an evse.

What we do in Mongolia (same as Meenasoda, right ?) is build the bed out of bricks and put a fire underneath it. Then you spend most of winter in bed ... Collate this with that other thread and ... :D

That would be like those guys who want to haul icebergs to the Gulf of Mexico to stop hurricanes... 8-)

That sounds like it might be a bit too smokey for me. And Sue Lyon...

Between 12/13/2013 and 12/09/2014 I used 13.861 kWh on gas and 1.876 kWh on electricity :(
371- 528 - 818 - ?
1.8 kWh in a year? What type of computer do you have, an abacus? ;)

I'm going to assume that as he's from Austria, he swaps the comma with the decimal point. So that would be 13,861 kWh of gas and 1,876 kWh of electricity to us English speaking types :)

Right. We use the decimal point as thousands separator :-)
371- 528 - 818 - ?
Yep, I wind my German missus up about this on a regular basis :)
