Linux Graphicscard for IBM 275

I'm going to try out Linux on my RS/6000 275, however it won't work with the gxt6500p graphics card. GXT135p cards would do the job, but they are almost impossible to find (not willing to pay a fortune for it). The gxt135p is identical to the matrox450 except for the bios. Someone managed to flash the ibm bios on a G450 and it worked. I guess IBM does not offer it for download.
To the question:
Does anyone know other graphics cards working with (suse) linux on power? (I know of gxt:130p,135p). Or does the 6500p work with recent versions of other linuxes? Thank you very much.
to use gxt6500p you get use a kernel patch from CRUX PPC devel tree or install directly this distro.

cheers,

if you have a GXT135P (matrox gpu) and is on PCI:0001 you could get a working DRI but you need to patch the libdrm source.
Here folks are talking about.

Interesting, explains why I had problems installing Linux graphically on the 275..
I thought it was jut my config...
I'd been using mine headless for PHP testing, web site backups, source code control, etc..

I should take everything off it and install AIX..

I wonder if you can use a Radeon with kernel mode setting.

I'm going to probably go for AIX , but I'll keep this in mind if I ever should want to dual-boot or go for Linux/BSD /whatever.

(Is there any particular reason why the GXT6500 and 4500 aren't supported as of yet?)

I've got an IBM 7044-170 with dual boot with two hard disks.

The machine originally came with a GXT4000P card that doesn't work on Linux. I tested two video cards:

S3 Trio64V+: identified on AIX as GXT110P, this card is no longer supported on AIX 5.3 (read AIX 5.3 release notes), but it works fine on AIX 5.1 and Linux.

Matrox G200: identified on AIX as GXT130P, it also works fine on AIX 5.3 and Linux.

So I choosed the Matrox G200 video card for AIX 5.3 and Linux. When Linux boots a nice penguin is shown on the screen, but you can't use the keyboard and mouse until Xwindow is started.

I also tested a Matrox MGA 2164W Millennium II on Debian GNU/Linux, but image got corrupted when I moved the mouse and colors changed suddenly on the image.

My two cents: go to a PC technical service and ask for an old Matrox G200 video card, you will get it totally free.

Unfortunately, I can only find AGP versions of the card at the moment.

Edit : Never mind, I just found a GXT135P for only £ 10!

I have no credit card,I'm afraid I can't help u. I also have a gxt3000p working on my 44p170.
‘Helping’ me ...? Plus, I wouldn't be able to accept a credit card anyway, unless it was via PayPal (I guess).
