Just installed on my O2. Many thanks!
It is like a new browser.

I've often wondered how many of us are (or were) commercial Unix vendor employees. My first job out of college was for AT&T, back in the dark ages when they were still hoping to make an eventual profit from Unix. I think we all know how well that worked out for them...

Ha. I've got a couple reels on my office wall from the Encore system we used before we got the HP K250 (in the machine room, link below).

I think I have one (or a set of two) 9-tracks with 4.3bsd on it. IIRC I actually got the miniroot running on my 11/730 in 1990-91*, but the whole reason I got the thing was because the RM80 was throwing tons of bad blocks under VMS. A grad student in the magnet lab was using the thing as her personal workstation until that happened - I asked around and got her an 11/750 that another lab had taking up space in a hallway, along with a couple RA81s. Quite an upgrade...

I was surprised at even getting the thing to boot the miniroot, I had heard that the Nebula wasn't supported by any of the distribution/generic kernels.

* I had to run an extension cord so I could put the RM80 on it's own circuit, otherwise I'd just pop the circuit breaker.

By the way, I use diegel's rebuild on a daily basis and it is really MUCH faster than older builds.

Is this a known problem? I just upgraded from some previous non-optimized build of firefox 3.0.19 and got this:

Code: Select all

Removing orphaned directories
neko_firefox3.sw.eoe: ( if test -r $rbase/usr/lib/filetype/Makefile ; then chroot $rbase /sbin/sh -c "cd /usr/lib/filetype ; make -u > /dev/null" )
/bin/sh: syntax error at line 1 : `)' unexpected
ERROR: Command "( if test -r $rbase/usr/lib/filetype/Makefile ; then chroot $rbase /sbin/sh -c "cd /usr/lib/filetype ; make -u > /dev/null" )" failed (return status 2, subsystem neko_firefox3.sw.eoe 4)

I'm not sure if this is from the old or the new

N.B.: I tend to talk out of my ass. Do not take it too seriously.

This is the script to run the filetype makefile. It's only used for the icons. I don't see the problem here but I will check this.

mapesdhs wrote: Btw, what's the difference between the pre and non-pre files? And is one better off using
the slightly newer glib? (which I'm assuming is built with MIPS Pro instead of gcc?)

I removed the non pre build now. The pre build is the faster one. You can use the glib of your choice gcc or mipspro. I will upload the packages to nekoware beta after I checked every package again.

Ok thanks dude!! 8)

Presumably, from what else I've read, trying to port any significantly newer version is proving very difficult, yes?

I recently had to stop using my Fuel for internet banking, which was a shame (browser version too old, now blocked
by my bank), and it's become increasinly difficult to use the Fuel for eBay stuff (inevitably much more productive with
a 5GHz 2700K). Would be great if a newer version could be done some day.

yeah ebay got absolutely awful. which is even more ridiculous given that all ebay has to show is a couple of tables. the current ebay site is a nasty example of how to bloat a page up for no reason at all

You should try taobao :( About a year ago it was fine but oh no, the children running these nitwit places just have to add jumping bunny rabbits, flashing stars, popup "would you like to super-size that?" crap &c &c ad infinitem.

It really makes you want to slap somebody ....
I'd still like to take a shot at 3.6, at least, but my time is being consumed by TenFourFox (which has higher priority) and my Master's degree (which the job insists I finish). Perhaps I shall do this around the time my marriage to Scarlett Johansson is nigh.
smit happens.

I can prepare a firefox3.6 patch for you. The only thing you have to do is debugging.

Details, details ;)

On the other hand no harm in generating the patch now, since nothing's happening on the 1.9.2 branch. The real money would be getting Fx4 up. Fx5 will be troublesome, I suspect, because it requires libxul (no more static or separate component libraries).

Sounds like key elements keep changing with each release, so presumably something a lot more up to date like V35 is totally out of the question.

Edit: just updated an Indigo2 to your builds, diegel. One minor note, had to update sqlite3 first. I guess a few packages have been updated since I last checked.

You would not believe the amount of work getting it to still work on a Power Mac. And that's with the TenFourFox project being generally well regarded at Mozilla ...

Is that like a thumbs-up from Forrest Gump ? :P
