Blender Irix Development - Page 3

RC2 is ready to go! This one includes Blenderplayer as well! (I was
previously having trouble getting it to compile).

http://download.blender.org/release/Ble ... ps.tar.bz2

Hopefully this version has fixed some of the quirks you guys mentioned
earlier. I am also working on upping the max number of threads, so
you should see a much bigger number than 8 by the time of the final
release.

Thanks again for the support and help!

(remember that it is cntrl-q to quit now)

Hm, still the same prob when opening files via <F1>

and still the same prob with sequencer as above ...
Hmm, well I will have to work on recompiling iconv and seeing
if that fixes it. I am using the static library from the Nekoware
version.

I will try and put a post on the mailing list for Blender about
this to see if anyone has some insight.

Thanks again for reminding me of it. Sorry I have not had a
chance to fix it so far.

Charles does the current version of blender contain all the advances that were developed in the production of Elephants Dream? dual monitors, sequencer stuff, etc...

Yup everything is in there, it just seems as though there are few things I have to resolve since some are having issues. It has the game-engine and Blenderplayer included as well (I don't remember if Blenderplayer was previously included).
Charles
pardon my ignorance, but the main blender site no longer seems to carry an irix version for the new 2.43
Will that be available here sometime in the near future?
Well, Jarndyce911 build the rc2 and im sure he will also create a 2.43 for IRIX.

regards
Joerg

Yes I am sorry that I am so late on this. I had the asbestos removed from
my ceiling and before it was done I had to leave on a business trip which
has been extended a week past when it was suppose to go till.

It is one of my first priorities when I get back! Sorry again!

Well, it is not on the official download page just yet, but we are on the map again:

Please let me know if you have any problems. Sorry again for the delay!

I will try and work on a Nekoware version this week!

I'm getting the same error in this version as some other people:

iconv_open Erroriconv_open Erroriconv_open Erroriconv_open

The File Open does not show the filenames ...

see if anyone can compile the latest version of libiconv.

I just tried the neko_libiconv just placed in /beta and I'm still getting the same error :(

The blender 2.43 also works fine with the old neko_libiconv. The reason is quit simple because i think that it doesnt use the neko version because i cant find reference to it.

Code:
[fuel]:/opt/blender-2.43-irix-6.5-mips $ par -sSSi ./blender | grep iconv
326mS         blender( 1668): open("/usr/lib/iconv/iconvtab", O_RDONLY, 077) = 3
[fuel]:/opt/blender-2.43-irix-6.5-mips $ nm blender | grep "iconv_open"
[4455]  | 270015876|     400|FUNC |GLOB |DEFAULT  |UNDEF  |iconv_open
[15871] | 285651072|    1288|FUNC |GLOB |DEFAULT  |MIPS_TEXT|libiconv_open

Please tell me the IRIX version you use "uname -Ra" It might be possible that SGI have updated the libiconv and youre using a older release.

regards

Joerg

uname -Ra returns

IRIX64 IRIS 6.5 6.5.29f 01090133 IP30

When I go to save a file or open a file, it doesn't show fonts! I can't read filenames. Fonts everywhere else in the program work. This was true for the 2.43 prerelease and the current 2.43 release.

What might be the matter? Is anyone else seeing this problem?

"Ridiculous. How can you justify wasting time and effort on this so-called 'fire' when our children are freezing to death at night?"
It's some sort of libiconv problem - I experience the same thing. It looks like whatever version of libiconv it's using (according to Joerg's research above it's using the IRIX supplied version) is statically linked:

Code:
% ldd blender
libmalloc.so  =>         /usr/lib32/libmalloc.so
libfastm.so  =>  /usr/lib32/libfastm.so
libm.so  =>      /usr/lib32/libm.so
libGL.so  =>     /usr/lib32/libGL.so
libGLU.so  =>    /usr/lib32/libGLU.so
libmovie.so  =>  /usr/lib32/libmovie.so
libXi.so  =>     /usr/lib32/libXi.so
libXmu.so  =>    /usr/lib32/libXmu.so
libXext.so  =>   /usr/lib32/libXext.so
libX11.so.1  =>  /usr/lib32/libX11.so.1
libc.so.1  =>    /usr/lib32/libc.so.1
libdmedia.so  =>         /usr/lib32/libdmedia.so
libcl.so  =>     /usr/lib32/libcl.so
libaudio.so  =>  /usr/lib32/libaudio.so
libCio.so.1  =>  /usr/lib32/libCio.so.1
libpthread.so  =>        /usr/lib32/libpthread.so
libCsup.so  =>   /usr/lib32/libCsup.so
libC.so.2  =>    /usr/lib32/libC.so.2
libGLcore.so  =>         /usr/lib32/libGLcore.so
libXsgivc.so  =>         /usr/lib32/libXsgivc.so
libmovieplay.so  =>      /usr/lib32/libmovieplay.so
libmoviefile.so  =>      /usr/lib32/libmoviefile.so
libXt.so  =>     /usr/lib32/libXt.so
libgen.so  =>    /usr/lib32/libgen.so
libmutex.so  =>  /usr/lib32/libmutex.so
libawareaudio.so  =>     /usr/lib32/libawareaudio.so    delay-load

... so no way to try a different version that I can see.

I hope that this is the correct place to ask these questions, if not forgive me. What is the minimum IRIX overlay version for Blender2.43? I am running 6.5.6 on my 02s because I still use Alias Composer 5.5 and Zapit!2. I cannot run anything above Blender2.25 on the 6.5.6 02s because I get a long library error, Blender2.04 works fine. I also have older Indigo2s, Indys, an Onyx2 4P deskside and a Origin 3800 64P; can I run on the older Indigo2s and Indys and use the multi-proc capacity of the newer Onyx2 and Origin3800? I may also buy some Octanes, Fuels and Tezros; are they compatible with Blender2.43? Thank you.
Its based on nekoware so you need at least 6.5.21 or better. Yes, it runs fine on the FUEL and a current blender can use up to 8 cpus for a single rendering job. But as general it makes more sense to start more than one job to utilitize your cpus. If you would like to render a large quantity of frames at once, and you have more than one machine around take a look to drqueue.

regards
Joerg

Yes I'm getting the same problem, It seems that version 2.42 is the last fully functional version to run on an SGI......8(

Anyway a big thanks and applause to Charles for getting this version ported to SGI anyway,
we owe you past infinity... !)

But besides not being able to view any text in the file view it crashes after doing one frame of
Yafray rendering......
It seems that the development team is no longer taking SGI hardware into concideration, the fact
that this version compiles is a miracle I guess....

This is now officially the end of the last actively developed piece of software on SGI......... 8[
( please correct me if I'm wrong... )
