if you think that is kool you should see video assisted sinus surgery--using a ct scan to reconstruct the skull, the surgical instruments are tracked so the surgeon knows exactly where to operate--area is fraught with all sorts of serious complications as eye nerves are in back of the sinus--potential for blindness--the whole field of medical/surgical imaginng is exploding with new techniques

i am really new to all this connecivity--i sort of really only know the words and the concepts
i have read till my eyes are red on all this and am now against a wall

all i want to do is get a file from one machine into my octane
the are both plugged into a router and i can ping both ip

one machine called mac ( my machintosh) has a ip of 192.168.1.100
my sgi is called octane with ip --will get it again--excuse this line and data

my mac has a shared flder whre anyone can red write it is called shared

why an i getting error commnd not found on my sgi

loged in on sgi as root

ftp://192.168.1.101--command not found (using consil on sgi)

i enter roberta illaboo
get need to login

what do i type to enter user and illaboo
also
i assume when i am in my mac
i can somehow browse to the directory where my data is
and find the file
then what?

i now this is basic but i really do not know--i have read a lot but missed the crucial need to have a ftp server runnning on machine

ok heres what now happens
i ftp to my mac

we are connected
i press enter
and i get password required for root--i assume it is the pw for admin on mac
but i cannot type anything in terminal window on sgi
little green box but even with curser in dialog i cannot type
what am i missing

with all your help i got my file on my sgi--very very happy about this--took over 2 months to get to this point
now to get it installed on sgi

reading up on it

i was under the impression that irix sofware manager would install it but fill is in tar format

what i am trying to do is install blender for irix
i have downloaded and it is now on my octane

reading the howtos--mainly for unix and doing homework on irix software manager
i have not untarred ( i like that work seems better than uncompress!) the tar file yet as i need a little more advice
i had assumed that irix software manager would take care of installing the program ( as root)--
anyway im making major progress learning octane and relearning unix/irix
i appreciate all your help and guidance on this

very new to octane and have some unix--finally after lots of help from sgi general forum got blender tar on my machine

done some home work on irix

how should i install the blender tar file?--doesn't software manager manage this?
i know i must be root on machine and am semifamilar with basic unix directory file stuff

found some other stuff i can play with including blender
now how do i install them on octane
drag and drop where?

i assume logged on as root
find the file drag it where?
i assume i then click on the file and it will run?

what file runs blender--i tar the blender file into a directory called blendertar

the i ran ls
and got these files
.blender blender plugins release txt copyright blenderplayer blender.html pyton license gpl license blenderquickstart.pdf

i tried entering blender got command not found

i am really new to this and i realize this is basic but to me it is a little confusing but i have made real progress
if i get blender to work on the octane tons of aggravation will come to pass and i will move on
so, what do i do to get blender to run?--i am logged in as root and a command window is open

i am really getting excited at this point

went to directory where blender is
typed ./blender

go fatal error cannot successfully map soname--libCio.so.1

tried ./blender in home diectory and got permission denied--confused at this as i instaled as root--doesnt root hae full previledges to everything?

i hve downloaded from nekoware a version of blender but need advice/hep on how to install the file--i understand it is mch easier to install a file from nichoware

im getting the impression that maybe blender has to be compiled on my machine

maybe i should start all over with my tar file so that the executable is in my path--a little confused about this but i understand the basic reasoning --how should i start over and make sure it is in my path?-
isnt there a icon that i can select to run blender?

blender 2.49a got it from blender.org
downloaded it to my macintosh and from sgi ftp to mac and got it
from my home dir on the sgi i made a dir called blendertar, into that i moved the tar file into it the i uncompressed it
found the dir it created and in that dir ran ./blender
all as root
i mentioned i also got a oldr version of blender from nechoware
i really appreciate your help here--

my friend that's what i have been doing all along
problem is knowledge of the past is corrupting the present
i was under the optical illusion that all you had to do is get the machine, the the os, and a monitor and then go for it
problem was all the technology was ancient
it was fun getting the machines but not getting my program to run-to many gotchas and you need this, this, that, and so forth
anyway there is a little fun in mudville.

on the ny linux users group someone once posted--free for pick up 50 pounds of cables--you have to take the whole thing as i cannot go thru them to find what you need.
im getting at the point to say--free octane,o2, various cables, monitor, power supply etc etc etc must pick up in the bronx x

very new to irix and octane
i have downloaded a file that is a tardist\from what i understand i have to open this file in my browser ( not hooked to net yet)
the file is in my home directory--
how exactly do i set netscape to open this file:

i have tried thins like just enter the file name
or / the filename

any basic help is appreciated
