The collected works of compuman86

they are all there in my sig...

I think it should be fairly easy, but just for those who have never heard of these names, they are all names of steely dan songs..

ok, ive got it running now on my server, 5 minutes ago and up to 100mb already, what all does this archive? is there a way to archive the freeware too? how about patches? I'm trying to archive all that I would ever need before it disappears!! :D

but if you are running a script that is thwacking a website without understanding what the script is actually doing, you probably shouldn't be running the script, even if it comes from a reputable character like jan-jaap...

I know, I know. I have a good general idea of what it does, but I just wanted to confirm what was happening here, and ask if there was a way to archive some of the other portions of the site. I misunderstood that the techpubs site also held software, and patches, I realize thats supportfolio. so the correct question from me is, is there a way to archive supportfolio? without clicking each link?

hello,
so heres the story: I just got an O2, which had linux loaded on it. I wanted to change to irix, so I set about formatting the hard drive. so i did the normal format, using the sashARCS and stand/fx.ARCS commands to bring up the formatter, formatted completely. now, Ive tried irix 6.5.1 and 6.5.15, each time, ill load the CD, it will "install installation tools", then when the bar gets to 100%, the screen goes black and goes into energy saver mode, and the power button and such fail to respond, requiring me to unplug it. my printenv seems clean, what else could it be?

ok, well that didnt work. each time i try to reinstall, the bar goes up to 100, the mouse freezes, then the screen goes black and the monitor goes out. im gonna try removing the sound/video inpu card and see if that is the failure

according to this : http://www.donlinrecano.com/cases/caseinfo/sgi the old SGI is now known as Graphics Properties Holdings, Inc. does this mean something is brewing behind the curtains?

well, these guys seem to think sgi stock is still worth $60 http://www.scripophily.net/silgrapincsg.html If I knew this I would've bought a few before they tanked....

question-
does this hacking technique work on the "watchdog timekeeper" chip (the one with the "bulldog" on the face instead of the "alarm clock") as well? is it in the same location? I'm not seeing the blank pins on the datasheet where it would be....

Same idea - can't recall exactly the details. Try using a magnet to find the side with the battery in it.

yeah, that should work as long as it has iron or steel in it. i'm planning to slowly and carefully disassemble one, hoping to get to the pins. too bad we don't have access to an x-ray machine, that would definitely make it easy to find the exact location and depth of the pins... :)

So who will be the first to take a greening Indy case and see if it turns Blue ?

I heard about this awhile ago on classiccomp, I think that once I get around to doing this I will actually be using an indy lid that I replaced because it was scuffed and discolored, and I have an indigo case and octane front panel as well that have been replaced...

TWC used O2s for their regional weather displays up until the mid-to-late 2000s. I think they're all gone now though.

yes, the weather star XL was apparently two skinless O2s mounted on a rack shelf. from what I understand, a lot of the "B" rate cable systems (also called "overbuilds" in the CATV world) still use these systems to this day.

I'll try to run it off, but Zazzle.com (where I made it) does not print copyrighted logos.

They turned down my Nintendo64 mug.

Hopefully, this is too obscure for them to catch.

If they do, I might try to argue that SGI is outta business.

I've snuck copyrighted images past cafepress.com before (apple logos, mac os logos) but after ordering one a few days later they shut me down.

EDIT: I take it back, I just tried to upload a pic of the SGI "family tree" to cafepress to make a poster, and within a whole 3 minutes of it sitting there, they "banned" it, saying I couldn't use it.

though it is off topic a bit, I'd have to say my prized "SGI promo item" would be the mint in package 1 dozen of Silicon Graphics golf balls, as they seem to be rare and no trace anywhere! must've been exclusive to corporate maybe?

Not at the moment, I'll have to take one next time I have a spare minute

well, finally solved. I spent the better half of the day swapping parts between two O2 boards, with trial, error, and success. my problem and solution go as follows:
1. the board in o2 x was a 1997 board with what I found to be a 300mhz "2000 sgi" processor
2.the board in o2 y was a 1997 board and 200mhz "1997 cube-bug" processor
both had 4.14 PROM versions

so I switched processor y into board x , installed 6.5, upgraded overlay to 6.5.22, which upgraded the PROM to 4.18. upon swapping the x processor back into the x board, it all works!

so as it seems, PROM version seems to dictate what processor version works in what board...

no, the processor is an r5200. I agree on the wiki, it took me some time of reading random threads on here regarding the o2 to figure out.

apparently,
3% drugstore H2O2 works just as well with a different version, and reduces the risk of seriously decomposing the plastic like what is possible with stronger peroxide... found it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/66071596@N00/3822230561/
