Miscellaneous Operating Systems/Hardware

dg/ux on intel

I'm trying to install DG/UX4.11 on intel...
When booting from floppy on old pentium 2 with scsi controller - AIC7880 chip, which should be supported, the process transfer me directly to "Boot command:" prompt:

Code: Select all

DG/UX System Release R4.11MU04 Bootstrap
Boot Command:

To boot from the CDROM I need to know the hardware device configuration or if they are detected by installer. Something like this(I found it from google):

Code: Select all

scsi controller :
- adaptec 29160
- Bus          : 0
- device no.   : 9
- func no      : 0
- vendor id    : 9005
- device id    : 0080
- irq          : 5
- i/o          : B800h
- host id      : 7
- boot scsi id : 0
- boot lun     : 0
- scsi id      : 0 - HDD
- scsi id      : 6 - CD-ROM

I know there is no SMC available, but is there any command to invoke it?
"Look on wife/girlfriends/parents face when you drag all this stuff(IRIS CRIMSON, ONYX, ONYX2, ORIGIN 2000 ,etc.) home.... Priceless! ;) "

Do trying things like '?', 'h' or 'help' at the boot command give any hints?
(I've never tried DG/UX)

I've tried all letters, but nothing :?
"Look on wife/girlfriends/parents face when you drag all this stuff(IRIS CRIMSON, ONYX, ONYX2, ORIGIN 2000 ,etc.) home.... Priceless! ;) "
:Tezro: :O3x02L: :Indy: :Indigo2IMP: :O2: :O2: :Octane: Motorla Series 900(MVME197LE) , Atari TT030, Motorola Powerstack
What if you try "boot", "boot -v", "boot -s" - do you get anything, even an error message?
Torfinn
Always this error:

Code: Select all

*** ERROR: No device specifications found in boot command
*** ERROR: Invalid boot command line
"Look on wife/girlfriends/parents face when you drag all this stuff(IRIS CRIMSON, ONYX, ONYX2, ORIGIN 2000 ,etc.) home.... Priceless! ;) "

A quick Google search for "DG/UX boot parameters" led me to

And

I don't know squat about Data General stuff so I have no idea if any of it is helpful, but I was curious.

I've used DG/UX on AViiON, but never saw it on Intel. Not sure if their bootloader bore any resemblance to AViiON PROM commands...

However Prior to the advent of SVR4-derived DG/UX, I know they remarketed Interactive UNIX for the 386. I wouldn't bet money on this, but depending on the age of what the OP is working with perhaps it's relabeled Interactive?
Then? :IRIS3130: ... Now? :O3x02L: :A3504L: - :A3502L: :1600SW: +MLA :Fuel: :Octane2: :Octane: :Indigo2IMP: ... Other: DEC :BA213: :BA123: Sun , DG AViiON , NeXT :Cube:
hmm intel dg/ux is news to me, too. wouldn't mind taking it on a ride in a vm tho :-)
