IRIX and Software

IPv6!!!!

I have IPv6 setup on my network, and I set it up on my O2. I figured I'd have to fsck with it, but it Just Worked(tm). For being an older OS, it seems to have mature support for it. :D

6.5.30 (and some of the later 6.9.2x'es) has some niceties introduced long after MIPS products had ended. It even does 64 bit time so that IRIX systems will survive the 2038 UNIX epoch.

I was wrong, just looked into it some more and apparently it's 32 bit. Unfortunate.

and a small army of Image
Yeah. I've been really happy with 6.5.30. It has a few quirks, like all the PostScript stuff. But otherwise, it's been great.

SGI - the legend will never die!!
That's impressive. Lessee 6.5.19 came out in 2003. I don't think Windows XP SP2 from 2004 had a complete IPv6 stack and I know Linux's was half-baked, and this seems to be pretty solid so SGI was certainly ahead of the curve.

Yep, back in Tokyo I've deliberately chosen my provider because they had native IPV6, IRIX worked flawlessly. Call me lazy but it's so much easier when I can set up all my hosts all over the world without crazy routing necessary.

Hmm, I've got IPv6 up at home over the past couple months (sonic.net and 6rd). Works fine for the frequently used machines, I'll have to see how the SGIs handle it Some Day Soon®...

I have ATT and they provide native IPv6. A few tweaks to my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter, and voila...IPv6. IPv6 on IRIX has worked pretty flawlessly. I'm impressed.
