Cloning System Root Disk IRIX 6.5.8 Octane - NO LUCK

I followed Ian's step by sstep procedure for cloning a system root disk found on hisFuturetech site, but Im having liitle luck. The problem is when I ge to the xfsdump / restore point after entrting the following;

cd /0
xfsdump -l 0 -p 5 - / | xfsrestore - .

It lists a bunch of options followed by Total time 0 sec's. baically its over in a blink. After numerous attempts, I cant seem to copy all the files. I was successfull copying the volume header without problems.

The disk I am copying is as follows;

Root dsk - 36gig on ID 1 controller 0
"clone"backup dsk - 9 gig on ID 2 controller 0

Am I mising something?? typo??

(^^perhaps a good wiki candidate^^)

Root dsk - 36gig on ID 1 controller 0
"clone"backup dsk - 9 gig on ID 2 controller 0

you are sure it will all fit?
You eat Cadillacs; Lincolns too... Mercurys and Subarus.

It would have taken no time at all for you to do it.

Thanks... I will give that a try.

the search should show the script i posted some time ago. it was made more comfortable by another member later.
both should be still here
r-a-c.de
http://www.siliconbunny.com/downloads/c ... t_disk.ksh

this working perfect since times .......
remember! this is k-shell script.
so :

Code: Select all

ksh

then there make this run like ......you know
best, omelett

P.S. edit that script before, if your drives have another 'dks/dsk' numbers
P.S.II. siliconbunny refreshed her site! nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
must take a new look.
P.S.III-important- make sure You have prepared the 'to clone-disk' to have the same parameters-

Code: Select all

fx -x

there You go
the procedure to make a root disk & that one to re-size (if its not standard) the swap partition ;)
goood luck, its easy
I'm having problems getting the clone procedure in the wiki to work on my Octane2. ( http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/ ... ystem_Disk )

Everything looks good until I execute this command:
xfsdump -l 0 - / | xfsrestore - .

A load of info quickly scrolls off the screen and then the machine locks up - the light bar turns red and I have to press the reset switch or power off !

I have a fresh install of 6.5.29 on a 9Gb system drive (1), and copyng to a 4Gb drive (3). There should be sufficient space as the fresh install appears to be approx 2.5Gb

Just curious what I might be doing wrong.
Was this the latest greatest version of the script?

If we can get the best copy into the wiki then we can just point at that..

Added: I know that back in 2006 I used a version of the script when I got my Indy and it worked fine. Sadly I seem to have deleted it. [wtf?]
