Probably because a year later someone from SGI was trying to flog the last 15-to-20 Octane's here for $595 (and by then the not-on-sale-but-still-being-offered-from-the-clearance-warehouse-everything-MIPS-must-go price was only $1195): viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13667&p=114965#p114965
