Anyone here use their Silicon Graphics systems to make graphics?

Post stuff!

I create a lot of graphics on my SGI's.
Mostly 3D stuff with blender, and shake to composite it all together.

All of my wallpapers were cobbled together with GIMP on my Octane.

You didn't specify 2d or 3d.
Either, I just wanna start one of those "post your artworks" threads of stuff made on SGIs.

I've done all my 3d work for FlightGear on my O2. You can find a few here:
http://www.ehofman.com/fgfs/gallery.html

You have to keep in mind that these are not high level of detail models since they need to work properly in a real time environment.

Oh, another thing; The models have improved since these screenshots have been taken and the Fokker-70 model has a complete interior (I just had to do that once :) )

Erik
Well, this was created on an Indy running Photoshop with a 12" WACOM tablet:

Not great, but I should have some stop-motion animation to put up shortly, but I want to get the onion skinning working so I can smooth out some of the animation first.

Awesomes! I like the wacom one.

What's onion skinning?

I quote lewis:

Right now I'm only using a guage for measurements (animating "blind" like Obie and Harryhausen did it.)

Oh! Like what you do with a lightbox? I used to have one of those and I tried to make a few simple animations. It worked but it killed my arm.

Yep, like you do with a lightbox.

My wrist constantly hurts, yet I persist. Apparently, I like pain or something.

So does mine but the lightbox crosses the line.

I just do the same thing in Gimp now. I take a sketch then I cut it to half opacity and I draw the heavy lines in a layer over it to make inked pictures.

SkyBound, is your avatar picture CGI? Where's it from?

Eh, no. :)
I'ts called "SkyBound on an aurora crystal ball" and can be bought here:
http://www.starry-eyed.com/fantasy/nature.html

(My O2 has been named Aurora since the beginning.)

Erik.
You name your computers too?

I'm still trying to come up with a name for my Octane. I wanna call him Frank Dukes. My PC is named Pete Mitchell and my eMac is named Pussybitch.

Every machine that has a soul needs a suitable name :) I'm still trying to figure out a good one for my HP J5000 - It's got "Hedgehog" assigned to it now, but that's only temporary. Problem is that HPUX shortens hostnames to 8 chars for uname, which makes it quite a bit harder to find a good one. :?

I got around naming my systems when I got more sgi's :)
My pc still hasn't a proper name, it just has my nickname 'bluefan', my second pc never got a name.
My sgi's are named:
Lisa (Octane)
Danica (indigo2)
Lara (origin200)
Toika (O2)
Myra (O2)
All have girl names, because I just love these babes :D

Well as you all know IRIS is the default, and, apart from it being a flower, it also sounds like an Egyptian God (Isis, the mother God), I decided to keep the Egyptian God theme going.

The O2 was my original system, so it retains the name IRIS.

The second O2 I bought to replace it (long story), is named Osiris.

The Octane (when I get it up and running) will be named Anubis.

Don't ask me why, I don't even know myself, but for now, that's where it stands, till I get bored and change everything again.
