The collected works of myrrh

Normally I can't stand ESR (he's one to talk about "blatant ego"), but this article was particularly good. I'm glad I took the time to read it.

Wow, you're the same age I am? Interesting. I'd have thought you were older (you seem to act more mature than I do, anyway).

Couldn't agree more  DOS 3.2 here though.

It's even an official copy. In a box. With Microsoft "license". I sent the "Receive a free COBOL programming kit NOW!" postcard that came with it 15 years after purchase, but haven't heard from them since. Cheap bastards.

I'll see your 8086 with DOS, and raise you a Heath-Zenith H89 with CP/M and dBase II.

Yes, it does not look good if you only have a cisco cert. Well, I have a BS CS from NM Tech.

Not to mention the valuable experience of basically filling in for the manager of networks and maintenance at the TCC for what, five years or so?

And learning how to tiptoe around what can only be described as difficult managers who aren't even on your team, and yet want to grab all the authority they can...

You're off to a better start than most CS graduates, I would think.

My name's Matthew, I'm 26, and I'm a sysadmin for an old bank (founded in 1875) in Trinidad, Colorado, USA. I mostly admin Windows Server 2003 but also some Linux (Debian) and FreeBSD.

I'm also a computer consultant in my off-time, doing anything from eradicating malware to teaching people how to sell stuff on eBay.

I play keyboards (Roland Juno-D currently) and collect and sell old hardware. I've had quite a few SGIs but all I have at the moment are a VW320, a Zx10, an Indigo2-HI, an Octane, and a POWER Challenge L. Also a bunch of Suns, a couple of old Macs, and tons of other random stuff.

Married, 1 kid (Kevin, 18 months old), two cats, one dog.

For a bit of trivia, I live in the so-called "Sex change capital of the world."

What happens if you don't finish in time? I assumed that you just miss the questions that you don't have time for, like on most timed tests, but I thought I should ask. Anyway, I am fairly good at subneting calculations, but I will practice more to be safe. I wish they would let me use my HP48gx calculator on the exam. It will do all the decimal to bin to hex to octal conversions; it will even do bitwise operations, such as AND & OR!

I miss my 48GX. RPN rules.
