I saw on the opengenera cdrom a few languages (fortran, c, basic, etc.) certainly those do not produce lisp as output.

LISP Machine: MacIvory request - Page 2
I was always interested in the TI MicroExplorer -- I had a book (which I can't find) I bought at R**** S**** on artificial intelligence that had a whole section on the TI Explorer. But I'll take the Ivory.
This seller seems to be accelerating his sales, though. I've had an eBay search active on MacIvories for the last year-ish and they've suddenly started coming out of the woodwork. A Q650 with a MI-2 from another seller sold for over $5K, though I suspect part of that was it came with a full set of CDs and manuals. I'm just happy that mine will come with the network already configured (I'll give it a LocalTalk drop for getting Mac stuff on it and let the Ivory keep control of the NIC).

I seem to recall there's a MicroExplorer emulator?
mia wrote: I seem to recall there's a MicroExplorer emulator?
Not AFAIK. There are two Explorer I emulators/simulators, though. One written in C, and one written in Common Lisp.
The Explorer I was a fairly hefty NuBus-based piece of hardware, with a CPU (codenamed "Raven") built up out of discrete components. The Explorer II used the same chassis, but a faster CPU (codenamed "Hummingbird") that was a single IC. The microExplorer was basically a Hummingbird and some RAM on a mac-style NuBus card, using the Mac for all I/O.
I found this pretty useful:
OpenGenera Site Setup and First Steps
I'm going to give it a shot.

That is how F2L and Zeta-C worked.
So I got my MacIvory 3 today, in a IIci.
It was DOA.
The second IIci I transplanted it into ... wouldn't start.
The third IIci I transplanted it into would start, but now won't shut down without unplugging it (yes, the rear button is not turned in -- the IIci that runs my AppleShare network is setup that way so it reboots after a power failure), and the rear button doesn't shut it down either. That's not acceptable for a KVM.
At least the Ivory card works, even if freaking nothing else does: http://www.floodgap.com/iv/2578
For $4500 for this, I'm pretty pissed.

You paid $4500 for an ivory? OUCH.
<-------- A very happy forum member.
That seems to be the going rate, and yeah, ouch. Gonna take a long time to restore that dent in my savings account.
I've always wanted one for years, mind you, but I don't think I'll ever be buying another. Right now I'm just trying to find another suitable host for this one that, you know, powers up and shuts down properly.

why wouldn't you run opengenera really?
Well, thanks to foetz' expert advice, I do have a copy of Tru64 5.1 on the way for the AlphaPC, so I
could
run it, but I thought the OpenGenera license was some ungodly amount of money and I've already paid an ungodly amount of money for the MacIvory.

You can use a MacIvory III in any of the Macintosh II series, and (if it is revision "i" or above) in the non-AV Quadras, or a '040 WGS. You have a little more choice than with the MacIvory II because separate slots for the NS 8•16 memory board aren't needed.
Well, that makes it even better (or in this case freaking worse). It's a revision C. What was the difference?

For what's it worth, my MacIvory-III is housed in a Quadra 700. A nice little box and it works without any problems.

Yes, but what revision is it? (I was considering finding a Q700 until robespierre's post.)

Just tell me where to look and I can send you the information. On the apple mainboard there is something printed like "820-8020-B". I'm not sure if this is the information you're looking for.
But I assume robespierre talked about the revision of the MacIvory, not the Mac. According to the label on the back side my MacIvory3 is Rev.i, S/N 30508, while the Mac OS Control panel states it's rev. 20.1.

Yes, I meant the revision of the MacIvory board. The sticker on my card says Rev C; the board rev reported by the Genera CDEV is 20.0 (not 20.1), serial 30302. So I'm going to assume this will
not
work in a Quadra.

So, in the continuing adventures of my $4500 doorstop:
Turns out DKS has absolutely no farking idea how to maintain a Mac. Besides the fact that the Mac IIci he sent me had obviously bad caps (which I had a friend fix, about $200 in his time and shipping), the Apple Partition Map and the booter HFS volume have several critical soft errors to the point where writing anything to the HFS partition will corrupt it. It looks like he just dd'ed some tainted master copy of the drive over and called it a day. Disk First Aid actually says it's not an HFS volume; DiskWarrior tries to fix it but fails when writing the replacement directory. It did this on two different hard disks, so it's clearly something about the filesystem itself.
I had enough presence of mind to clone the disk to an image file before I started messing with it, but it's just too iffy and I can't make *any* changes to the HFS partition without causing soft errors. The best thing to do would be to reinstall everything. However, while I have some of the MacIvory installer floppies, I don't have the OpenGenera CD (you'd think for the price it cost that lousy piece of crap he is could have included some ISOs or copies) or any way of rebuilding the FEP partition.
If someone is willing to part with their set, I'd sure appreciate it, because right now what I have is a f%%king $4500 doorstop. It's too big to be a paperweight, so it's not even good at that.

I may be missing some detail, but the MacIvory Breath Of Life application should be all you need for rebuilding the FEP partition?
