IRIX and Software

IRIX shows multiple devices for a single disk

I've got an issue I've run into trying to dump an HFS disk image to a SCSI drive using my Fuel. The device is recognized properly, but IRIX sees the one unit as about a dozen. Disk manager shows they are all the exact same size and the drive only contained one partition when pulled from the previous machine. That said, it seems like I can still write to the device using dd although the HFS partition it makes doesn't seem to be bootable like I'd hoped. Is there some sort of setting I'm missing or do you think I have a borked drive? Any light that can be shed on the situation would be highly appreciated.

I vaguely recall SCSI bus termination issues (don't even recall which h/w or o/s) showing up something like that. I can't recall if the bus wasn't terminated properly or it was terminated more than it need to be (so signals were being echoed down the bus, or something like that) I think it might have been terminated on the device, terminated on an external plug and terminated on another device in the chain or something. It was decades ago.

Or address conflict. SGI uses address 0 for the host bus adapter, lots of people mess that up.

It was decades ago.

Everything was decades ago, now :(
long live our soviet motherland, built by the people's mighty hand ....

Oh yeah, maybe that is more likely.

At first I was thinking narrow device on a wide bus, but that wouldn't account for dozens of echos.

Sorry for the delay, I've been out a couple days. There's lots of good advice though. It's been a while since I've had to deal with SCSI termination weirdness so it's likely I've overlooked something really simple and the settings on the drive appear to be wrong. I've since managed to track down the documentation for the drive in question (an IBM model DORS-32160) and I'm fiddling with the jumpers to see if I can get it up and going properly. Thank you! :)
