Sun

Sparcstation 20, Solaris 9, and Sun Studio 11

So I'm reviving a hot SS20 with Solaris 9 and would like the Sun Studio 11 compiler on it. Though it was a free download in the past it's now... unavailable. If I buy the DVD, will I need a license key à la mipspro or do I just install and run?

If you have an oracle support contract you're able to download the full version as "patch" but didn't remember the patch #
Install and run. There's no need for license key.
BTW: why not using Studio 12? Studio 11 makes sense if you're using e.g. Solaris 8 and you must use the Sun/Oracle compiler suite

Hmm, I'll check it out Tuesday. Oracle's JSP link appears down as expected. It'll probably be be back up then after OPs is back in the office.

Knock, knock. Who's there?

All Sun^h^h^h, pardon me, "Oracle" Solaris software is free now, here's a link to dl Studio 12.4:

Looks like only Sun Studio 12(.0) works with Solaris 9 on an SS20. That version's of course, not available. Bummer. I found an old copy of GCC that I hope to bootstrap GCC 4.X and go from there.

Thanks for the help.

It was a long long time ago when the C-compiler was licensed, the Forte and Studio tools has never been connected to a license server.

@strong_epoxy if you have an oracle support contract or access to it (support.oracle.com) you should still be able to download Studio 12(.0) and Studio 12.1 (Update 1) - the Sun branded versions:

Patch 21570468 SUN STUDIO 12 PKGADD INSTALLER EOL ARCHIVE (Patch) 2.1 GB - Download Access req. Extended Support contract
Patch 20969014 SUN STUDIO 12 TARFILE INSTALLER EOL ARCHIVE (Patch) 1.6 GB - Download Access req. Extended Support contract
Patch 21576771 SUN STUDIO 12 UPDATE 1 PKGADD INSTALLER EOL ARCHIVE (Patch) 996.5 MB - Download Access req. Extended Support contract
Patch 20969278 SUN STUDIO 12 UPDATE 1 TARFILE INSTALLER EOL ARCHIVE (Patch) 861.7 MB - Download Access req. Extended Support contract

@mila Forte Developer 6 (WorkShop 6) was licensed with FlexLM LicMgr, ONE Compiler with serial number (S/N). Beginning from Studio 10 no license key was needed anymore.

I had the same problem to find Studio 12 for my Blade 150 last Christmas. Google + 'ftp' is your solution.

I think I have an original DVD with it but forgot where is now, I have to luck in my library

Thanks!

So y'all can see I'm struggling with my SS20. Since I can't reinstall Solaris 9 on a new drive I added a second drive, extracted Studio to it and 'successfully' ran the install. It did fail installing patches, something about running out of space... but all partitions had plenty. Now 'cc' fails with: '/usr/bin/cc: cannot execute binary file'

I wish this was easy like Windows...

Ha! Just trolling. Not really... Yes I am.

I'll show myself out.

You probably ran out of inodes.
The prevailing sentiment seems to be that SGI and Sun deliberately made installing their OSs difficult in the hope of increasing their field service revenue.

Oh, inodes. I forgot about those. Thanks. I'm re-partitioning now and I'll pay attention to them.

Yeah, It happens to EVERYONE... just about everytime I drop by the #gentoo IRC somebody is running out of inodes on a small disk either extracting the stage or portage... heh.

Let me know how it goes I'd like to get that same setup working on my SS20.
