Someone had a e450 free for pickup on CL, I replied while it was still the second item on the page, but I was told it was already gone. Doh! So bummed...

I wouldn't be too upset, the e450 is big, big on power, and not all that fast with todays Solaris. I have seen them used as tables though, as well as space heaters.

Yeah, the power consumption was a concern. But as far as speed, it would be a lot faster than my U5.
My wife probably would have shot me if I'd brought it home, anyway.

Depending on the configuration, a blade 1k/2k/ 280R can draw up to 800W and 9A IIRC. (Our blade 2000s and 280rs continually overload circuits)
Also, the e450 was USII(e?) based where the blade 1k is USIIIcu based - much bigger cpus.
Edit: I say based on config because the stock 1k isn't as bad as a fully loaded 2k or 280r, but the faster cpus do work just fine in the 1k and many people did the swap.

Holy ¢℞ª¶...I can't have an 800W beast sitting in my basement.
I never figured I'd have to prioritize my upgrades by power requirements!
