InfiniteReality3 video resolutions

Hi,

I have a deskside Onyx2 with dual RM10-256 boards and GM16-4.

I want to install a DG5-8.

Does anyone have the screen resolution options with this configuration?

Or even a link to a document that details this config.

Cheers
You can program any combination of resolutions, pixel formats (depth) etc. The bottleneck is bandwidth between the RMs and the DG.

The IR Video Format Combiner (ircombine) has a scale showing the bandwidth used.

The bandwidth is *just* not enough for two 1920x1200_60 screens, but it will do twice 1920x1080_60

Additionally, the 6 extra ports on a DG5-8 don't support resolutions as high as the first 2.

For details, refer to the InfiniteReality Video Format Combiner User's Guide .

It turns out that when reset, the WD33C93 defaults to a SCSI ID of 0, and it was simpler to leave it that way... -- Dave Olson, in comp.sys.sgi

Currently in commercial service: Image :Onyx2: (2x) :O3x02L:
In the museum : almost every MIPS/IRIX system.
Wanted : GM1 board for Professional Series GT graphics (030-0076-003, 030-0076-004)

Can you do 2 @ 1920 x 1200 @ 50 hz, j-j ? With an lcd, the 60 hz refresh isn't such a big thing ...
Code:
1920*1200*60 = 138240000
1920*1080*60 = 124416000
1920*1200*50 = 115200000
2*138 is too close to 290 million pixels per second (i.e. more than that when including the "housekeeping" stuff), if 2x124 works, so should 2x115. It's likely that 55Hz, or even something closer might work as well.
I think when I tried (2 years ago?) the screen wouldn't sync below 57 or 58Hz.

There are a number of predefined combination files included with a reasonably complete IRIX/IR installation - take a look in /usr/gfx/ucode/KONA/dg4/cmb . The predefined combinations can give you a rough idea of what might be possible. Those will only touch on the possibilities, IR graphics are very customizable, so SGI probably anticipated most customers would create their own display formats. To get a better idea open a few of the supplied combination files with ircombine and try tweaking them to see if you can find a combination that suits your needs. Once you understand how it works, the ircombine gui will indicate if you've exceeded the capabilities of your IR graphics set.

I suspect it's not exactly what you had in mind, but the InfiniteReality Video Format Combiner User's Guide should provide enough background on the basics of IR display capabilities to get you started: http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/tpl/cgi ... /ch01.html
