(Octane) System hang after "Starting new eventmond"

Finally got to install 6.5.29 on the Octane, but this system doesn't seem to like me.
When I first boot the OS I get

Code: Select all

IRIX Release 6.5 IP30 Version 01090133 System V - 64 Bit
Copyright 1987-2006 Silicon Graphics, Inc.
All Rights Reserved.

The system is coming up.

network: WARNING: IRIS's Internet address is the default.
Using standalone network mode.
UX:mv: ERROR: /etc/resolv.conf - No such file or directory
Warning:  Internet Gateway web server running as root.
Use "chkconfig webface_apache off" to disable.
Doing firstrun configuration...
Running /etc/rc2.d/S76esp verify...
Creating event manager directory...
Initializing event manager subscription file...
...Loading private actions...
Starting new eventmond...

And after that it hangs on the serial console. I'm able to get in over telnet but halt for instance doesn't work...

You might try booting into single user mode:
stop at the PROM, select option 5, type "single" <no quotes> and press enter.

Once booted, I'd suggest following the IRIX Installation and Customization nekowiki as a template to see if the errors are correctable.

I'd also turn off ESP - "chkconfg esp off" and turn on verbose boot messages with "chkconfig verbose on"<again without the quotes>.

Thank you very very much! I had the same problem today on my Octane and after turning esp off, it worked like a charme!

Can someone tell me, what this service esp does? Thanks
