Debian 7/MIPS and MaXX DESKTOP

Debian 7 just got released and MIPS support looks pretty good. On my i7 ia64 arch with an old Quadro1700 it really flies. So I was thinking to 'officialize' the porting of MaXX to MIPS/SGI. I will need some help of course for the testing and bootloader.

I tried installing it on a fresh Debian 7 system on amd64, but no joy. For some reason, it only works on systems with the old gdm (scientific linux/centos in my case).

I would drop to init 3 and check you have 3d accelerated graphics. F18 and 17 with Gnome 3 gave me this trouble and I had to install the official nvidia drivers to fix it.

Edit: whoops, I read the above backwards. Sorry! Thought you had problems with the new GDM.

You might want to check that with the MaXX guy - at first there were specific limitations on what systems SGI allowed him to port to.
