IRIX and Software

freeware.sgi.com no longer online

It looks like sgi has finally retired the freeware site as it just redirects to the corporate front page now. I FTP'd to ftp.sgi.com to see if the old stuff is still there and it is. But who knows for how long. Hopefully someone with the resources mirrors the FTP site if it hasn't been done already.

I have a full mirror of the FTP site sitting on my machine somewhere. I wonder if it might be worth someone reaching out to SGI and seeing whether they could grant us permission to properly host a mirror of it here.
Systems in use:
:Fuel: - Lithium : R14000 600MHz CPU, 4GB RAM, V10 Graphics, 36GB 15k HDD & 300GB 10k HDD, New/quiet fans, IRIX 6.5.30

Other systems in storage: :O2: x 2, :Indy: x 2
I don't see why they would object. They don't have any rights to the software, do they?

I might mirror the FTP on the gopher site.
smit happens.

It's more than 51GB - and that's without following the links like /graphics and /opengl. That's when I ran out of space on the volume I was using to mirror it, so I don't have the full size...

Good news, a mirror of the freeware site exists in the nekochan ftp. It's in /pub/sites/freeware.sgi.com :D

Some time in the next few days I'll work on pulling it all down to my mirror at nekoware.dustytech.net.
While you are mirroring don't forget about ftp://oss.sgi.com ... The source code for Inventor lies there in the project directory as well as other gems..
:Onyx2: :O2: :Octane:
I decided to mirror ftp.sgi.com and oss.sgi.com just now. I'll share with someone involved with the nekoware ftp server once it's done, if they're for some reason unable to get the files themselves.
:Indigo2IMP:
So in addition to fixing my mysteriously broken mirror sync script :P I also mirrored some parts of ftp.sgi.com and oss.sgi.com. There was too much extraneous crap in there to just grab everything, but I made sure to grab certain items of interest like inventor, performer, etc. If you don't see something mirrored that you think should be, send me a PM or make a note here and I'll pull it down.

I'm still pulling all the freeware.sgi.com contents down from ftp.nekochan.net. I'm probably on the brink of setting nekonoko's router on fire though because it's throttling me down to 128kbps.
