Agreed. If that fails, R4400 CPUs are usually not expensive - at least up to 200MHz, so buying one of these is also worth a punt. Even if your current CPU is OK, it's still a potential upgrade. The only real issue is if the motherboard has failed.

Oh I don't plan on throwing away any old proprietary PSUs I have to replace.

Though honestly I'd rather get one I have rebuilt (I just don't have the inclination for that sort of thing) than buy another one.

That's kinda what I plan on doing myself. Except that I'll probably amass a bunch of them and then sell them as a lot for an acceptable price. Hopefully whoever buys them is able to fix them and put them back on the market.

I have a sled for 3.5" unit.

Sorry, I don't have 5.25" sleds

A CDburner/RW? Yamaha? I have one for sale :D

I actually purchased the sleds I need from another Nekochan member and a CD drive off eBay that I'm hoping will work, but I'll keep you in mind if the CD drive isn't good!

If you get the cd sled that is the hard part. If you need a 50 pin CD drive let me know and I will send you one.
If the thing isn't on fire it's a software problem.

I figured out what my Indigo2 needs is not a graphics board, but a power supply...what's the part number(s) for teal Indigo2 power supplies? Found some PSUs on eBay but don't know if they're for R4x00 or R10k systems.

R4k and R10k PSUs are the same, its the non-impact graphics you want. So there you go

Or you can get the impact ready powersupply and if you ever want to run an impact graphics card you'll be ready (well, you need the riser too I guess). Just make sure you plug the impact/gio power into the terminator on the powersupply if you don't have an impact graphics card installed (regardless of having the riser)

For upgrading to Impact systems you need at least a PROM revision "SGI Version 5.3 Rev E IP22 Sep 28, 1995" or "SGI Version 5.3 Rev E IP22 Jan 29, 1996" which correspond to part# 070-1367-011 and -012

From the ebay listing i infer type 9430814. Jodeman lists in http://www.oocities.org/siliconvalley/h ... upply.html that this is a PSU for R4K/R8K systems with Express GFX.

Also, the blue impact power cable for the riser is not there, so it's evident from the pictures that this is not an Impact PSU.
:Crimson: :PI: :Indigo: :O2: :Indy: :Indigo2: :Indigo2IMP:
Ah, I didn't know Impact PSUs had a blue power cable! That helps a lot, thank you.

I might as well get an Impact PSU, unless they're significantly more expensive.
:Indigo2: :Indy:
They can be more expensive, but it varies. Also because SGI made several different IMPACT-ready PSUs. There's a 36A one and a 48A one, plus several different revisions of them. There's a full list of the different ones on Ian's site in his parts section.

That's honestly not a bad price for a proprietary PSU, and I could easily knock a few bucks off by making an offer...
:Indigo2: :Indy:
Not bad at all. Hope it works out for you Vince

I might as well add in extra power capacity, even if I don't end up using it. It's hard to have a PSU that's too powerful. :P
