O2 harddisk not working?

Hi,

I just received an O2 with a 9GB SCA harddisk (HP made) which the previous owner mounted (but never installed IRIX on it).
As it is a 10K O2, the SCSI ID of the HD is "2".
Hinv recognises the disk, but i can not use fx on it!

so help is very welcome... :-)

Greetings TOM:-)

PS: Find two pictures attached, on one i have censored two emberassing Typos ;-)

Not sure if I remember this right, but have you checked the ARCS PROM variables, afair all the OSLoadxx stuff and SystemPartition? I think I was able to repartition and relabel an otherwise reluctant disk after clearing these variables. These settings are automatically set at boottime, but maybe it's worth a try - although I must admit that this comes from distant memory ;)

P.S.
Your Indigo is finally on the way! Sent you a PM also!

Just an idea but is there a jumper on the disk that lets you pick SE over LVD ?
O2 is an SE system.
Thanks rooprob, but there are no jumpers on the drive ...

SGI - the legend will never die!!
The same problem was discussed here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=16726761 but there's no conclusion. I'd also try to zero the disk, that should work from the miniroot with cat /dev/zero > /dev/rdsk/dks0s2vol (possibly substitude dsk for rdsk, vh for vol, the numbers, use dd instead of cat, etc). If that doesn't work in the miniroot, try another box to zero the disk. In case the disk is actually broken, I have a few 18GB drives that I want to get rid of, you can have one for whatever shipping from cologne to vienna costs.

If i pull the disk out and put it back in while i am in fx, i am able to exercise, repartition, label and so on, but on the next boot / start of fx the disk is again not operational. So i zeroed it out but still no good... will pm you for you offer of a SCSI drive.

Thanks to "canavan" and his replacement HD my O2 is now working!
(After i zeroed the new drive with fx) i was able to install IRIX!
I also got a 195MHz CPU, which i will fit in later this week.

I glued the case of my O2 together, but she is still in a rather miserable shape :-(

Does anyone have a replacement Skin-set (all the plastik parts) for me?
especially bad are the broken "On-Off" and "volume" buttons, which i can not fix.

Greetings and thanks for your great help!
TOM:-)
