A thing of beauty! Or, I'm just assuming it is since you didn't actually post a picture... ;)

My workmates aren't into old UNIX stuff at all and I think I'm crazy building this thing up and the amount of HOURS I've put into getting it going again. However I'll do my best to grab a shot soon. Cosmetically it's not too bad but the outer skin on the right hand side has a huge great scratch across it - unfortunately it was the best condition skin out of 5 O2's! :(

I just love how cool it looks on my desk though. Such awesome product designers SGI had!

You might be able to fix that with Novus Plastic Polish, if you give it a try post back and let us know how it works as I'm not sure anyone here has actually tried it yet...

Cool - I found some cheap sampler kits on eBay - I will get one ordered and see how it goes :)

I'm new here (prodded to join by ClassicHasClass :D ). Here's my O2, named Reco. My O2 is running OpenBSD so I can't get an hinv from within IRIX, but below is a serial dump of 'hinv -v -p' and 'hinv -v -t' from the maintenance console.

I've had the machine for a little over a year now. In the past few weeks I got a 5-port USB PCI card and a cheap RealTek 8188CUS USB wifi dongle (urtwn(4), for other OpenBSD users) and now I have a happy wifi-enabled O2 :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a dedicated place for the machine yet, but here's a picture of it.

Sadly, the O2 body came damaged. I'm not one of those people interested in the looks of the machine (as long as it works, I'm happy) so I doubt I'll ever get it fixed.

And here's my (currently sparse, but usable) desktop screenshot.

You again! Nicely done. What's with the TVLand sticker? Does this machine watch Nick at Nite?

It's a shame O2 plastics are so damn fragile.

The machine came from the studio of Klasky-Csupo, where it was used in the rendering farm of cartoons such as Rugrats, Ahh!!! Real Monsters, and Duckman. In fact, that was the major reason for me purchasing it; I grew up with those cartoons so the machine has extra value to me over its utility. I always assumed the tvland2 sticker was just its name in the internal network or something.

Oh, that's awesome! Some of these SGI boxes have great history. My second Fuel had stickers implying it came from a nuclear lab of some sort.

Nice use of Dillo. Very appropriate for the machine.

It was an easy choice, since I'm the maintainer of the Dillo port for OpenBSD ;)

Thanks. The Loongsons are great. I use the Fuloong as a general server at home (and it hosts my gopherhole to the public).
One yeeloong is on permanent compile duty; the other I use as a travel netbook. And I often have to give mini demonstrations wherever I take it ;)

I have an O2 CD drive cover you can have for free, if you want to cover the shipping from the UK!

I actually have the CD drive cover, it's just not on the machine right now :D
But thanks for the offer!

Busted ! If you type "Dillo" into the search box and look under /Development, you'll find quite a few posts about Dillo ....
