Everything Else

Need to get out this digital on-line world..

So, tonight I receive an email from Amazon.. and email from an address I cannot respond to.. it read:
Hello Mr X,
This is an important message from Amazon.
At Amazon we take your security and privacy very seriously. As part of our routine monitoring, we discovered a list of email address and password sets posted online. While the list was not Amazon-related, we know that many customers reuse their passwords on several websites. We believe your email address and password set was on that list. So we have taken the precaution of resetting your Amazon password. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused but felt that it was necessary to help protect you and your Amazon account.
To regain access to your Amazon customer account:
1. Go to Amazon and click the "Your Account" link at the top of our website.
2. Click the link that says "Forgot your password?"
3. Follow the instructions to set a new password for your account.
Please choose a new password and do not use the same password you used with us previously. We also highly recommend that you chose a password that you are not using on any other sites. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Amazon
Please note: this e-mail was sent from an address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. To contact us about an unrelated issue, please visit the Help section of our website.

So.. I like millions of people will use the same account type information for may things, it's a complete data protection fsck up!!

It took 20 mins to find a contact Amazon page to complain and a further 20 mins to contact the BBC!! I want out of this digital world... (except ebay).

Funny. Peter van Nederpelt, "My Password List. Website, Username, Password - Store your user accounts savely". MicroData: The Netherlands 2012 [ISBN 978-1-4710-2986-8].
As the title says, it allows you to write down website/username/password information; there is space for 22 entries per letter of the alphabet - plenty. Quite useful.

Except - a filled in list is probably the most dangerous book you can ever lose...

I use icloud keychain but there are a gazillion PW managers out there, including 2 or 3 that are pretty good (e.g. 1password...)

For me it's the other way around - I change ids but keep the password. Although most people in the world are familiar with it, I never got compromised...

My password with all of my sensitive job information on my email (may) have been compromised by political terrorists, and yet microsoft told me I had to wait 30 days in order to change it........ " for security purposes "

Yes, incompetents are everywhere. Don't get me started on the messages that ask me to "enter your security questions, to keep your account secure"...
