The collected works of joekster

Got myself an indigo, cool little machine. The seller said that it was a 100mhz model, so I was planning on throwing in 384mb of ram and the 150mhz r4400 module I had left over from my indigo2 upgrade.

Powered on the machine, all looks good, but its the r3000 model, with only 32mb of ram... Not sure what to make of it??? The older processor makes it a bit more vintage and interesting, but is 32mb really useful for anything? Could I run netscape 4.x on it? Is it possible (and not too $$$) to get for ram for it?

Or, should I just look for an ip20 board and go with original plan?

What's everyone's thoughts?
Thanks for all the feedback!
My machine does hae the XS-24Z board.
The oldest IRIX that I have is 5.1.1, is it going to be too much for it?
Would 5.1.1 be an option if I up'd the memory to say 64mb or 96mb?
Where would I find the memory kits?
Title says it all. I'd love to get 8mb sticks, but beggers can't be choosers...
I just had similar issues with my indigo/r3k. When I first got it, I needed to reseat the cpu board (solid green light), only to discover that it needed a new battery. Changed the battery - solid green light. Reseated the cpu board - solid green light. Pulled new battery out - booted. Put battery back in - finally all good!
my old cr2032 (read 2.5v) works fine.
Nothing?
Would they be available from a memory seller? (Crucial,kingston,etc...)
Alphabios will not work with adaptec u2w or higher. I *think* it will work with a 2940uw, and I know it will work with a 2940w. I have a 3940w (dual-channel 2940) available - pm me if interested.
I’m helping Nova Southeastern University’s Computer Museum ( http://www.scis.nova.edu/museum.html ) try and locate one of these iconic super computers. Ideally, it would be an earlier model (pre-SGI acquisition) and in working condition. BUT, given how hard these are to find, we’ll take what we can get. If we can get a fully working model, the plan would be to fire it up a couple of times a month allowing students write and run their own “supercomputing” applications.

Donations would be great (and tax deductible) and there is a *limited* budget to purchase key pieces. If you have any hardware/software/manuals or even have a lead to find any of this, please contact me.
I just happen to have a microchannel scsi controller: http://ps-2.kev009.com/ohlandl/SCSI/MCS ... CS-600_700
How about $12.50 + ship?
Regular mail to poland would be $17, priority mail $24.

I also *think* I have a microchannel ethernet. Let me know if you want me to check.
Ok, I do have a mca ethernet card: an Intel "MCA LAN ADAPTER". Coax and AUI, can be 10BT with an AUI adapter. Looks just like the one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-306448-00 ... 232a40e9d4

Drivers still seem to be available if you poke around intel's site: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/326/eng/E16lan.txt
