The collected works of erwan01

Hi,

As a member previously suggested, it would be a good thing to put screen captures of old Alias and Wavefront graphics applications during the pre-Irix 6.5 era, since there are none on the internet. (ALias/2, /3, PowerAnimator, MotionBuilder, The Advanced Visualizer, Kinemation, Dynamation...).

They have a special place in CGI history.

I would love to see PowerAnimator screens. It's always been the software I wanted to have but never had the chance to get my hands on it (and won't pay 500$ on ebay for a copy).
I worked a bit with StudioTools (similar interface) and my everyday package is Maya.
But anyway I would like to see the link between them, that is PowerAnimator!!

So if you have time to upload screens on that post or PM them to me...feel free

As for composer my indigo2 has it installed.
Thanks
Hi,

I'm about to buy a Sgi (Sony) GDM5411 monitor for my I2.
Does it have a 13w3 slot or only VGA (HD15)?

Thanks
Hi,

Does anyone know how to change the menu colors (more exactly the pop up list color) in Softimage|3D 4.0? I'd like to go for grey instead of white. I changed colors in the "Preferences" menu and then saved the changes to a file called "Desktop.col" in my $HOME directory.

To launch Softimage, I use this command line:
soft -f (to run in foreground) -r $RESOURCE_DIRECTORY -s $SETUP_FILE -C $HOME/Desktop.col

Everything works fine except that the menus are still white which means that my color file has not been taken into account .

Should I place the "-C $HOME/Desktop.col" argument elsewhere in the command line or is it that this option simply doesn't work??

Any help greatly appreciated
Erwan
OK. So it seems I have to directly modify the "original" color file. It's called Default.col. I'll make a backup.
I think SI didn't bother updating the available flags in 4.0.
Anyway still a great piece of software.

Thanks a lot
Hi,

Is the "sudo" command available in some way under Irix 6.5?

Thanks
Thanks for the tip

I haven't changed that file yet. I was hoping I could get my command line to work without altering the original file. I tried everything but the "-c $COLOR_FILE" flag is not recognized by the program.
So I guess the only option left is to directly modify the "Desktop.rsrc" file in the /usr/Softimage/Soft3D_4.0/3D/rsrc directory.
Hi,

I recently installed Houdini 4.0.4 (Octane SE under Irix 6.5) and had some problems with it: objects disappearing after a model/transform operation (and not to be found again) or still rendering in wireframe despite the “shaded” option being checked.

Has someone ever had issues using that version, or can it be considered a stable and “bug free” release?

Thanks
thanks for the tips. No TRAM in my Octane. I've tried all the options but still have the same problem. I'll try again
I think the TRAM only allows you to have a faster preview of a textured model, which is otherwise possible but VEEERY SLOW.
I noticed lots of inconsistencies when using the different tools of that version (4.0.4). A few of them:
- when I unlock a SOP, it makes my model and the associated geometry disappear, like it never existed.
- when I switch to “shaded” view (the option below the viewer), the model still displays in wireframe, despite having its wireframe color correctly changed to that of the current material. I had that problem with many SOPs.

I just wanted to know if someone has had the same problems with that revision of the software? I reinstalled it and the bugs are still there. The Octane and Irix are correctly setup.

Thanks a lot
Houdini 4 dates back to 1999 (the same time Irix 6.5 was released) but was probably optimized for 6.2.
So the combo Octane/Irix 6.5 might be the problem. The software's documentation is silent about any incompatibilities/problems.
I do own an Indigo2 Extreme, but it's not an impact (OpenGL native) machine so running Houdini 4 on it would be horribly slow. Like you said I guess I'll have to buy an Indigo2 Impact (I have the 6.2 install CDs) or else cope with the glitches...
