IRIX and Software

a perfect ElectroPaint port

Kudos! And neat that this announcement caught the attention of i_am_ralpht, who claims to have ported EP to OpenGL while at SGI. Has he contacted you outside of the comments/replies?

Having not experienced ElectroPaint in the flesh (I should go put it on the Fuel now), how close is StonerView, since that has both Mac PPC and Classic versions?

It's probably already on your Fuel - try running "ep" at the command line (if you like that, try "bongo"). Reasonably complete installs usually include ep, it should also show up a one of the screen saver selections (the screen saver version of bongo is Octahedra).

Can't answer that (mostly because it'd be a CDiH before I install anything with stoner in the name). :D

mdl, nice, nice work. I just realised, however, that we're expected to compile this ourselves. I didn't see that coming. Any chance for a Windows binary?

You should ask the question the other way around: how close is Stonerview to ElectroPaint.

Having been running both for a long time, I consider the `look and feel' of Stonerview very close to EP. There has been really hard work trying to mimic the behaviour of EP, especially when the tiles switch from a single "ribbon" to 4 or 5 "columns". The colour transitions in Stonerview are slightly off, though. They lack a certain je ne sais quoi only EP has.

Of course this is 100% subjective opinion...

Bongo like candy!

I'll try it tonight after the parts have come in for the server.

He hasn't, but I should see if I can get in contact. It would be interesting to talk to him.

I regret not pointing this out explicitly, because it's a really poorly publicized GitHub feature that even I didn't know about until I made this release--I did supply a binary! Hit ElectroPortis.zip here. :)
