Hardware For Sale/Trade

New Spaceball 3003C with drivers etc

Box is open but, doesn't look like anything has been messed with. Has all the driver disks and cd's. A bunch of serial adapters too.

$45 + shipping from California or an interesting trade.

Do the included disks have IRIX drivers & software or is it Windows only? It's kind of hard to make out in the pictures, but it looks to me like the CDs and floppy disk all mention Windows. Or are drivers included with IRIX anyway?

I've always wanted one of these Spaceballs, but I know absolutely nothing about them!

I have nothing to do with the seller, but if it is a compatible device, and it looks like the one I have.. Spaceball drivers are built into IRIX...with correct bits installed in swmgr.. read the wiki topic: here

Also there is a libsball with a example app to play around with on the nekochan ftp in the "see also" section of the wiki topic.

I hope this answers your questions.

The card in the box says,

"SpaceWare 7.4 supports only the following operating systems:

IBM AIX 4.1.5 and 4.2
SGI IRIX 5.3, 6.2, and 6.4
Sun Solaris 2.5 and 2.5.1
Hewlett-Packard HP-UX 9.07 and 10.20
Digital DEC UNIX 3.2G and 4.08"

I imagine there are updates out there somewhere online too.

Thanks for the link to the Wiki page! I have a bad habit of forgetting to check the wiki for info.

Interesting, I never knew about support for such things on Digital UNIX/Tru64 for example.
If it does work differently, I hope that if anyone does buy or trade for it, they update the wiki or provide enough feedback for a useful wiki update.

You're very welcome, I think if continue to work on the wiki it will be more useful for everyone.
smj did restructure it a bit but we can continue to work to make it easier to find stuff.
There is more than 500 articles and although I spent a couple of weeks making sure there was a path to every article it not always the easiest wiki to navigate.

I was interested in this Spaceball, until I saw the size of the credit card bill that came in the mail yesterday. No new tech toys for a while. :( I do hope you can find it a good home, leaknoil . It's an unusually complete setup you've got for sale!

I should also point out that my research found that drivers (for at least some later models of Spaceball) are available from http://www.3dconnexion.com/service/drivers.html . Be sure to check the box next to "Also show archived* software" when searching for IRIX drivers. You also may need to register first (whatever that may entail) before you can actually download anything.

It's nice to see that the current manufacturer still remembers the existence of IRIX. It seems to me like the company has changed names a few times, so the continued support for IRIX is a pleasant surprise after all that.
