SoundBlaster PCI, compliant with Octane2 ?

hi guys
I have seen a dude claiming that his SoundBlaster/PCI is compliant with Octane2, and I wonder about the Irix support, and also if the hw is really compliant.

p.s.
can someone suggest, in case, a good Wave Editor for Irix ? (I mean, if it is existing, something like SourceForger for Windows, a program that makes you able to add Fade_IN/Fade_OUT, to apply a few digital filters, to copy & cut, etc, just the basic job with Wave file)

thanks.

p.s.2
I am also asking because this link is broker here, I can't access it
(reddit dot come r IRIX wiki audio software)

Find out what model of SoundBlaster, and check against the wiki page for the Fuel: Fuel#Add-On_Options

Audigy2 ZS

wiki page about SGI Fuel
Audio
In its standard configuration, the Fuel does not come with any audio hardware, although speakers may be attached via a Universal Serial Bus sound card. The most common solution to add audio capabilities is to install a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 PCI sound card, although the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS can also be used . Additional audio options using PCI expansion cards are available.

but I am speaking about Octane +shoebox (triple PCI slot), isn't there a note page for Octane about that Sound card?
I am not sure it will be compliant
e.g. Fuel has a list of working sATA_PCI cards, and these cards are not working on Octane

As a data point here, a CAD DUO card doesn't physically fit in a Fuel PCI slot. I suspect that the Fuel PCI is run at 3v3 while the Octane PCI (which does take a CAD DUO) would be run at 5v. There's also something about different versions of the RAD PCI sound card for Fuel?
good questions, unfortunately I do not know anything about RAD PCI , sorry =(

The Fuel indeed has 3.3V PCI slots, so only 3.3V and universal PCI cards will fit. The CadDuo is a 5V card and therefore can't be used in a Fuel (but can in an Origin 200 or a shoebox/shoehorn).

Audigy2 ZS should be compliant to PCI/5V (perhaps 5V tolerant?)
What is not clear to me if it has been really tested on IP30/Octane2 with success.

three levels of compliance
  • 1) hardware side, IP30, XIO_PCI_shoebox
  • 2) firmware side, IP30 mobo, the last revision of everything
  • 3) software side, more specifically if Irix v6.5.27 is enough

oh well, then there is the Application side, where I'd like to hear a few WaveEditor Apps. The provided links above sometimes works, sometimes is broken, Yesterday I had success for just 40 seconds, so I just read a list of "something" but then the page disappeared again, next time I will save with Firefox

Why are you asking so, buddy? For the importance of having the full-access (perhaps because employed) to all the machine porn secretly stored in Samsung servers ? Have I ever told you how many times I have emailed them asking for a damn datasheet without any useful response? I collected their cookies and broken links, while posting on a forum a dude told me he had success with the google cache, which was (he passed my his links) completely inaccessible for me. I was planning to hack one of their laptop LCD, but Oh well, I also like asian girls, so it may be interesting :D

(yes, you are right, I just wonder the why on the why we have so terrible internet- roaming in Italy. Google here is working better if I force my tcp/ip sockets through a USA-proxy  )

If there was, I assume you would have found it rather than asking us. ;)

So aside from that, your best approach would be to take models you know are supported by the IRIX drivers, for example from the Fuel page, and see if one of them will work in the Octane's shoebox -- hence my suggestion. Sorry I couldn't give you a ready-made solution, but that's how it goes.

of course, but the inverse approach might be applied when you find something and you have to take your decision: { accept->buy, reject->forget}(it) :D
I mean I have found this card, claimed to be " New SGI Silicon Graphics Sound Card for IRIX OS PCI, Octane , O2, Fuel, Tezro "
so I was looking for a confirm.
