MIPSpro C Compiler , what about license ?

hi guys
a friend of mine has given me his Impact just to make me toy with it, it's an Irix Impact (IP28) box with Irix on, i am not used to play with irix, as i am toying with linux on my Octane2 (IP30)

so, i do not have any experience about License for compilers, on my linux box i simply use gcc

it seems i have to use MIPS Pro Compiler for project like the following

Code: Select all

bluQueen# cd scicalc/
bluQueen# ls
Makefile           Makefile.original  README             calcform.c         calcform.def       calcform.h         scicalc            scicalc.c
bluQueen# make
cc -j -O3 -I/usr/local/include scicalc.c
cc WARNING:  -j is no longer supported
No such feature exists (-5,116)

The MIPSpro C Compiler
(license FEATURE string = cc)
requires a license password.

Some prowling the streets, looking for sweets from their Candyman , I'm Looking for a new IP30/Octane2
My machine got the Xbow damaged, so I swapped for a second hand Rigol-DG1032Z WaveGen/DDS@30Mhz
IP30 purposes : linux (kernel development), Irix Scientific Apps { Ansys, Catia, Pro/E, FiberSIM, AutoDYNþ }
Other Projects : { Cerberus , Woody Box , 68K-board, SWI_DBG }, discontinued Console hacks { GB , PSX1 }
Wanted Equipments : { U1732C LCR meter by Keysight, alternatives are the welcome }
ops, using the right "search key" google has find this full explanation about

as all real unix variants irix does have its own compiler. you can however get a gcc for irix from nekoware and other sources.
the makefile btw is wrong because using -j and -Ox together makes no sense.

i already have installed gcc for Irix, i am able to recompile a few o my linux text-console applications, e.g. i have written a text editor, just for fun, which i am recycled to code a TAP-debugger interface.

is there any student discount to buy the MIPSpro C Compiler's license ?
in the web pace i have linked it is written business only, but it seems the information is pretty old 2010 at least, so any news since than ?
i'd like to have a license, but i do not have any business ticket as i am a student.

Alas, SGI is dead and sold. The new owners won't likely dig up the license generator unless you shower them with money.
:Octane: halo , oct ane Image knightrider , d i g i t a l AlphaPC164, pond , soekris net6501, misc cool stuff in a rack
N.B.: I tend to talk out of my ass. Do not take it too seriously.
bad news =(

i have found a bit of thread in this forum, like this , or this , and i am reading them, but i have understood that … the conclusion is: ask a friend if he/she can provide a license, because you can't buy it =(

Or, you can always try backporting Open64 to IRIX. Its the same compiler, but different. :p
Entire collection up for sale :(
