IRIX and Software

Demo software

Hey all,
I was asked to provide a demo of my SGI O2 (R5K 180MHz.). It'll be at a meeting which is generally populated by Commodore Amiga and the like. I'm looking for something that will show off the O2 in a similar style like the 'scene' demos of old on 8-bit and 16-bit home computers. Of course I realise that SGI is of a completely different breed than consumer computers, so there never really was a demo-scene for them. It's just that the standard O2 demo's that came with it don't really put across the 'oomph' of the little machine very well. Any freely available demos or tips would be most welcome!

Are these demos the O2 demos (from the O2 demos disk) or the basic IRIX demos, which date back quite a bit?

These look interesting, thanks for sharing!
(Also, welcome to the forum :) )
You could try one of the scientific packages, such as viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16726713 , there are many others for stellar and geographic analysis...
If you have an O2Cam, you might try the demos that use the camera input as a dynamic texture map on 3D objects. That's one of the O2's more unique and impressive abilities, stemming from its unified memory architecture.

Yeah.
Hi ShadeofBlue Hi All

I'll write another welcome post when my first Indigo2 (Solid Impact) R10k arrives this saturday.
I think I'll have lot's of questions :) As till now I was collecting mainly Amigas but finding this forum convinced me to go for SGIs...

As to the subject of this thread:
Pouet.net has lots of demoscene productions. I think that many of the Linux productions could be easelly ported to Irix as they use generic OpenGL in most cases. I'll try to do that wehn I finnaly have mine I2.
