i got one of these
cables
, and it has 3 possible settings for SGI- SGI COMP. SYNC OUT SGI HV. SYNC OUT and SGI SYNC ON GREEN OUT ( in addition to some dip switches being labelled ON OFF in the guide... Wondering if anyone has used one of these, and what the modes other than sync on green out are, and how a dip switch cn be on and off at once?

I haven't but the other modes suggest:
COMP. SYNC OUT = composite sync plus RGB (RGBS)
HV. SYNC OUT = separate sync, like typical PC VGA on DB-15 or 5 BNC (RGBHV)
The others may tell you about what specific systems used those modes over 13w3, because I don't
