I just picked up a Sun Blade 2500 with 2 xvr-1200 cards in it. I wanted to put either OpenBSD or FreeBSD on it. However i am not sure if either OS supports the xvr-1200 and i was hoping somebody has some experience with these two operating systems on Sun hardware.

To the best of my knowledge, FreeBSD doesn't support the XVR-1200 at all.
OpenBSD has limited support for the first head of the XVR-1200 boards: console will work, and there is an unaccelerated 7-bit X server. That's about all which can be done without hardware documentation.

Erm, at the risk of being obvious Solaris supports dual xvr-1200, any reason why you prefer BSD
