CAD 3D geometry import for LightWave3D 5.0 ?

Hello to all!

There is a commercial tool available for conversion of various CAD geometry formats called Polytrans SGI.
This is the only one I found capable of exporting CAD 3D files - IGES, VDA, STL, IV etc. - into LightWave3D 5.0 .

Now I wonder if anybody of the real experts here knows another way...
No need for a fullsize multi-purpose fromall-toall format conversion program!
Only one thing: import from a single (Pro/E generated) 3D into LightWave.

Any hint greatly appreciated!
well there are several ways howver
on this site

http://www.chromecow.com/downloads.htm

there is a tool for lw to import and export stl

if it wil work on the sgi version ime not shure however
if its only a coupple of objects your talking about
ime a registrated lw user and run lw 8 on my pc
so maby i can convert it for you if it can get it working
i can export for 5.6 :)

so whats cooking.

besides that , theres a tool for pc called polytranz but its not freeware

let me know

mis,

thanks a lot for that kind response and generous offer!
It´s not a single data set I want to convert, but do it on a regular base, and of course I will take a brief look at chromecow.

If this is of interest to anybody else but me: Polytrans by Okino ( http://www.okino.com ), a command line tool which was originally made for use on IRIX is still available as Polytrans SGI - unfortunately okino´s other fine product, the NuGraf renderer is not.

What a shame...
and that irix version of polytrans cant do it for you ?

oh, I´m sure it can do much more than I need, but it is about 500$ which is quite a lot for a single command line utility.
Well I would disagree. 500$ for a tool that can convert so many file formats is ultra cheapo. This is less than a man-day in automotive industrie and will be paid out of the Portokasse (petty cash) like we germans say. I have seen simpler converting utilities in the range up to 50k and higher. But it all depends on how often youre gonna sell such a tool.

Life is what happens while we are making other plans
From the point of view you mentioned you´re right.
500 bucks is peanuts for big biz - but a lot for an hobbyists budget.
And before I go to buy I´m first trying all the expertise at nekochan here ;-)

In the mean time I found another program - all by myself - that does the trick even in demo mode:
Deep Exploration on http://www.righthemisphere.com (a lot of 3D stuff there),
but I dunno if there is an IRIX versions (assumeably not - sigh).
Unfortunately their site appears seriously mangled when viewed with mozilla firefox - checked with IE only? Bad sign.

C´mon, anybody a free solution on IRIX?
Nowthat you want to convert it to lightwave

do yo uhave some stuff that you have made in lightwave already
a gallery or so or ?

If you didn't need to do it on Irix, Accutrans is only $US20 and there is a 30 days trial version available.
Link is here:

I haven't really used it that much so I don't know how well it worked, but it converts to obj perfectly. I sent away the registration form but never heard from them and CC not charged either. The 30 days trial also lapsed without loss of functionality. Unfortunately I've deleted it now so I can't tell you how well it converts to lightwave.

Cheers
